Job description

Since 1973, JR Engineering has successfully served a variety of clients throughout Colorado. Areas of service include land development, surveying, surface transportation, water resources, and structural engineering as well as construction services in each of our major disciplines. Our in-house staff of talented engineers, surveyors, and support personnel enables us to respond quickly to demanding assignments, project schedules, and changing project scopes. With an annual Net Revenue of $18.5 million in 2025, JR Engineering currently has 100 employees with plans to grow to 120 employees over the next 3-5 years.

Job Summary:

The Survey Instrument Operator - Intern is primarily responsible for assisting the Party Chief in completion of daily tasks including Boundary Surveys, TOPO Surveys and Construction staking.

Essential Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Assists Party Chief with field notes, calculations, cut sheets, and all other data pertinent to the field study.
  • Assists in operation of survey equipment including set ups, tear downs, and staking out points or collecting information.
  • Keeps field notes in the data collector or field book as necessary.
  • Works with Party Chief to ensure accurate and efficient completion of assignments.
  • Required ability to lift and carry surveying equipment and materials weighing up to 75 lbs.
  • Ability to utilize a hammer and other tools to set survey marks.
  • Responsible for minor vehicle and survey equipment maintenance and cleanliness.
  • Stocks the survey vehicle with survey stakes and other supplies as needed.
  • Keeps the survey vehicle in a neat and organized condition.

Required Skills/Abilities:

  • Strong mathematical skills.
  • Strong verbal/written communication skills.
  • Strong planning and organizational skills.
  • Must work well with a team and take direction well.
  • Must possess an ability to learn Survey related skills and apply this knowledge to future tasks.

Education/Experience:

  • High School Diploma or GED preferred.
  • Currently pursuing a Bachelor's or Associate's degree in a related field is a plus.
  • Ability to work full-time during the summer (approximately May-August).
