Job Summary: Teach math to adult education students in preparation for the high school equivalency examination, maintain records of attendance and grades, and communicate with students about their progress.
Hours: 12 hours/week: Classes are Tuesdays and Thursdays, 5:30-9:15pm plus 4.5 hours of prep time. Classes follow the standard academic year and do not run during the summer or school breaks.
Duties/Responsibilities:
- Teach hybrid-synchronous math classes to adult learners. This means teaching classes to a group of students in-person while also having a group of students join the classroom virtually via Zoom. Virtual students will appear in the classroom on a large "Zoom board". Both in-person and virtual students will receive the same instruction and level of attention from the instructor.
- Identify and develop appropriate curricula and teaching materials to aid students in developing strong math skills at both the middle and high school levels.
- Monitor and assess students' progress.
- Compile and submit lesson plans and curriculum reports as required.
- Attend and participate in departmental, organization-wide, and other meetings.
- Act in the best interest of the organization, reflecting the values of teamwork, collaboration, and mutual respect.
- Other duties as assigned.
Required Skills/Abilities:
- Knowledge of the Mathematics College and Career Readiness Standards for Adult Education
- Ability to relate and to work with students from diverse cultural backgrounds
- Excellent organizational skills and ability to meet deadlines
- Knowledge of instructional materials and conceptual methods used to teach mathematics at the middle school and high school level
- Knowledge of curriculum design and development
- Ability to comply with and successfully complete a CORI background check before the start of employment
- Must be legally authorized to work in the United States. Employment eligibility will be verified through E-Verify upon hire.
Education and Experience:
- Bachelor's Degree in Education and/or Math
Physical Demands:
- Must be able to lift, move, and carry 15 lbs.
