Description
We’re currently looking for a Virtual 5th Grade Math Tutor

A family is seeking a patient, encouraging, and engaging virtual math tutor to support a student entering 5th grade. The ideal tutor will help strengthen her confidence and foundational math skills through homework support, guided practice, visual learning strategies, and positive reinforcement.
  • Schedule: Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays for 1 hour per day; flexible scheduling between 3:00 PM and 6:00 PM ET
  • Start date: ASAP
  • Length of Position: Ongoing, as needed, throughout the school year
  • Rate: $25–$40 per hour, based on experience
  • 1 child: Girl, entering 5th grade

Responsibilities
  • Provide engaging, one-on-one virtual math tutoring for a student entering 5th grade
  • Assist with math homework and reinforce concepts currently being taught in school
  • Provide additional practice and prepared lessons to strengthen math skills and understanding
  • Focus on key areas of need, including fractions, multiplication, and division
  • Use visual explanations and hands-on practice strategies when appropriate to support the student's learning style
  • Teach helpful strategies, shortcuts, and different approaches for working toward solutions
  • Introduce effective learning skills, study habits, and problem-solving techniques
  • Encourage consistent practice in a positive and supportive way, particularly when the student is hesitant or lacks confidence
  • Help build the student's confidence and independence with math

Requirements
  • At least 2 years of experience tutoring students in this subject and grade level
  • Strong knowledge of fractions, multiplication, and division
  • Ability to explain math concepts using visual examples and multiple problem-solving approaches
  • Patient, encouraging, and able to motivate a student
  • Comfortable providing tutoring sessions virtually
  • Able to pass required background and social media checks
  • Two references from paid care-related experience

Compensation
This position pays $25–$40 per hour, based on experience, and the family is looking for ongoing virtual tutoring for approximately 3 hours per week to start, with one-hour sessions on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays. Sessions can be scheduled flexibly between 3:00 PM and 6:00 PM ET, and pay taper off as the year goes on.
