How much do math engineering jobs pay per year?

As of Jul 4, 2026, the average yearly pay for math engineering in Austin, TX is $58,320.00, according to ZipRecruiter salary data. Most workers in this role earn between $44,600.00 and $69,400.00 per year, depending on experience, location, and employer.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Math Engineer, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Math Engineer, you need a strong background in applied mathematics, computational methods, and a relevant engineering discipline, usually supported by a degree in mathematics, engineering, or a related field. Proficiency in programming languages (such as MATLAB, Python, or C++), mathematical modeling software, and familiarity with simulation tools are typically required. Analytical thinking, problem-solving abilities, and effective communication skills are essential soft skills to excel in this role. These skills and qualities are crucial for accurately modeling complex systems, developing innovative solutions, and effectively collaborating with multidisciplinary teams.

What engineers make $300,000 a year?

Senior engineers in specialized fields such as software engineering, petroleum engineering, and aerospace engineering can earn $300,000 or more annually, especially with extensive experience, advanced skills, and leadership roles. High-level roles often require advanced degrees, certifications, and expertise in high-demand areas or management positions within large organizations.

What is the difference between Math Engineering vs Data Scientist?

Employer & Industry UsageTech firms, engineering companies, financeTech, finance, healthcare, marketing
Common Search & ComparisonMath Engineering vs Data Scientist

Math Engineering focuses on applying advanced mathematical techniques to develop engineering solutions, often in R&D or technical roles. Data Scientists analyze large datasets to extract insights, primarily supporting business decisions. While both roles require strong math skills, Math Engineering emphasizes engineering applications, whereas Data Science centers on data analysis and modeling.

What does a math engineer do?

A math engineer applies mathematical principles and techniques to solve complex problems in engineering, technology, and scientific fields. They develop models, algorithms, and simulations, often using programming tools like MATLAB or Python, to optimize systems and processes. Their work supports innovation in areas such as data analysis, machine learning, and product design.

What engineers make $500,000?

Senior engineers in fields such as software, petroleum, aerospace, and electrical engineering can earn $500,000 or more annually, often through a combination of base salary, bonuses, and stock options. High-level roles typically require extensive experience, advanced skills, and sometimes leadership responsibilities or specialized certifications.

How does a Math Engineer typically collaborate with software developers and data scientists on interdisciplinary projects?

Math Engineers often work closely with software developers and data scientists to design and implement mathematical models and algorithms. Collaboration involves translating complex mathematical concepts into practical computational solutions, validating results, and optimizing performance. Regular meetings, code reviews, and shared documentation help ensure alignment across teams, and strong communication skills are essential for explaining technical details to non-specialists. This interdisciplinary teamwork is common in industries like finance, technology, and engineering, leading to innovative solutions and continuous learning opportunities.

What engineering jobs use math?

Math engineering jobs include roles such as aerospace, civil, electrical, and mechanical engineers, all of which rely heavily on advanced mathematics for design, analysis, and problem-solving. These positions often require skills in calculus, linear algebra, and differential equations, and may involve using tools like MATLAB or CAD software.

What is math engineering?

Math engineering is a multidisciplinary field that applies advanced mathematical theories, techniques, and computational methods to solve engineering problems. Professionals in this area use mathematics to model, analyze, and optimize systems in industries such as technology, finance, aerospace, and manufacturing. Typical tasks include developing algorithms, performing simulations, and interpreting complex data to improve processes or products. Math engineers often work closely with other engineers and scientists to design efficient solutions to real-world challenges.

Job description

About the Role:
SiSTEM is hiring experienced math tutors to work with motivated students and families in the Austin area.
This is not a volume tutoring gig. Our tutors work as trusted academic partners with families who value expertise, helping students build real understanding, stronger problem-solving strategies, and confidence in math at every level.

If you can tutor any of the following, we want to hear from you:

Elementary Math (Grades Kโ€“5):
  • Number sense and arithmetic.
  • Fractions, decimals, and percentages.
  • Word problems and early problem-solving.
  • Multiplication and division fluency.
  • Introduction to geometry and measurement.
Middle School Math (Grades 6โ€“8):
  • Pre-Algebra.
  • Algebra I.
  • Ratios, proportions, and probability.
  • Integers, expressions, and equations.
  • Geometry fundamentals.
High School Math (Grades 9โ€“12):
  • Algebra I and II.
  • Geometry.
  • Trigonometry.
  • Pre-Calculus.
  • Calculus (AB and BC).
  • Statistics and Probability.
Advanced and Honors-Level Math:
  • Honors and Pre-AP Math.
  • AP Calculus AB / BC.
  • AP Statistics.
  • IB Mathematics.
  • Dual Credit College Math.
Test Prep Math Sections:
  • SAT Math.
  • ACT Math.
  • STAAR Math (Grades 3โ€“8 and End-of-Course).
  • TSI Math.
  • ISEE / SSAT Quantitative Sections.
  • GED Math.

You do not need to tutor every level. If you specialize in elementary math only, or AP Calculus only, or anything in between, we want you on our team.
About SiSTEM:
SiSTEM is an academic guidance platform that builds personalized roadmaps for students in grades Kโ€“12. Every student on SiSTEM has a plan. Tutors are a key part of that plan and are matched to students based on specific needs, not random availability.

We started as a tutoring agency in Texas, grew to 300+ tutors serving 10,000+ students, and are now launching a platform that gives educators better tools, better-matched students, and the ability to build a real client base.

What You'll Do:
  • Work one-on-one with students in grades Kโ€“12 to provide focused math instruction at their level.
  • Help students develop deeper conceptual understanding, not just finish homework.
  • Build number sense, problem-solving strategies, and mathematical confidence.
  • Identify and close gaps in foundational skills that are holding students back.
  • Align your sessions with each student's broader academic roadmap through SiSTEM's planning tools.
  • Communicate with families on progress and strategy when appropriate.
  • Maintain high standards of preparation and professionalism.
What We're Looking For:
We are selective about who joins the SiSTEM team.
Strong candidates typically have:
  • 3+ years of teaching, tutoring, or academic mentoring experience in math
  • Deep expertise in at least one of the math levels listed above
  • Experience working with motivated students who are in honors, Pre-AP, AP, gifted, or test prep settings
  • A track record of helping students improve grades, build confidence, or master concepts they previously struggled with
  • Clear, patient communication and the ability to make math click for students who think they're "not a math person"
  • Professional reliability
Bonus: Current or former math teachers, engineers or STEM professionals who tutor, educators with degrees in mathematics or math education, tutors with experience teaching multiple grade bands.

Why Tutors Join SiSTEM:
  • You set your own rates. And you keep 100% of what you earn.
  • Matched with students who fit your expertise. No random assignments. Students are matched to you based on subject, grade level, learning needs, and your teaching strengths.
  • Bring your current students with you. Already have clients? Add them to the platform for free. Use SiSTEM's tools to manage your existing students alongside new ones at no extra cost.
  • Families are already invested. SiSTEM parents are paying for a plan. They're engaged, responsive, and serious about their child's growth.
  • We handle the marketing. You don't have to find clients. We bring families to you.
  • Tools to manage your business. Scheduling, session tracking, and student relationship tools built into the platform.
  • Build a long-term client base. Students on SiSTEM stay for years, not weeks.
