Math Background Tutorials (MBT) is a workshop designed to help incoming and current students prepare for university-level math and numeracy courses. It aims to help support a smooth transition from high school to university math courses. Students will prepare for university level university-level by working through a comprehensive review of essential concepts in algebra, trigonometry, and functions. Effective study techniques and problem-solving strategies will also be discussed.
Positions: up to 6 positions available
Hours of Work (per position): 35 hours – subject to change
Estimated Course Enrolment: 150-200
Mandatory training: August 17 and 18 from 10am to 4pm.
Program dates: 4-day intensive August 24-27th, 10am to 4pm.

This position is open to individuals who have completed a degree or a major/minor in mathematics. TA experience in a first-year calculus at the University of Toronto is a requirement. Individuals selected for this role must be available for all sessions below:
Preferred Qualifications:
Prior experience tutoring in the MBT program.
The Sessional Instructional Assistant (SIA) will:
- Participate in a two-day training session prior to the beginning of the MBT Workshop.
- Facilitate daily tutorial sessions following the MBT workshop methodology for the duration of the MBT Workshop and participate in a daily debrief at the end of each session.
- Grade quizzes and assist students in solving problems during sessions.
