Job description

The Math Tutor provides direct academic support to students across a variety of math subject areas, helping students strengthen their understanding of mathematical concepts and build confidence in applying their skills. The Math Tutor works with students individually and/or in small groups to reinforce course material, clarify concepts, and support student academic success.

This is a part-time position scheduled Monday through Thursday, 10:00 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.

Examples of Duties:

Essential Duties and Responsibilities: 

  • Tutors students in developmental and college level courses through Calculus in areas related tomath.
  • Explains and reteaches math concepts as needed in math, science, program and other courses.
  • Tutors individually and/or in small groups primarily in person in the Math Lab, but also online per student request.
  • Assist students in utilizing the computer to complete assignments.
  • Documents interventions in Retention System.
  • Collaborates with instructors as needed.
  • Visits classrooms in person and/or virtually to provide overview of services or present Academic Seminar on related topic as requested.
  • Perform related duties as assigned by supervisor
  • Maintain compliance with all College policies and procedures

Other Duties and Responsibilities: 

  • Assist in maintaining log of students who use lab services.

Typical Qualifications:

Required Knowledge, Skills, and/or Abilities: 

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including ability to effectively communicate with diverse students, faculty & staff.
  • Computer proficiency (MS Office – Word, Excel and Outlook), Teams/Zoom and platforms utilized for math coursework.
  • Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills.
  • Excellent time management skills with a proven ability to meet deadlines.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks and to delegate them when appropriate.
  • Ability to work independently and to carry out assignments to completion within parameters of instructions given, prescribed routines, and standard accepted practices
  • Demonstrated commitment to contribute to a safe work environment.


Education and/or Work Experience Requirements: 

  • Master’s degree preferred
  • Bachelor’s degree required.
  • At least two years related experience required.
  • Current job specific credentials or certification preferred.
