Description/Job Summary
Baltimore City Community College is seeking qualified applicants for the position of Instructor of Mathematics. The instructor will teach an assigned number of courses per semester (fall and spring) to a diverse population of learners in a face-to-face environment (day or afternoon) in Baltimore City Public Schools and at Baltimore City Community College. The instructor will maintain scheduled office hours, conduct program assessments of student learning outcomes; and participate in meetings and events, as well as have the proven ability to work collaboratively in a team environment. Additional opportunities to teach in the Mayor's Scholars Program in the summer may be available . Applicants may be considered for a one-year and/or a one-semester term appointment.
Responsibilities/Duties
Teaching and Instruction:
  • Contributes to the college's mission and goals through effective teaching and instruction.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of subject matter through exceptional content delivery, pedagogy, and andragogy.
  • Uploads current syllabi, readings, and homework assignments and submits grades on time in Canvas.
  • Maintains attendance records in Banner.
  • Provides guidance to students for academic planning.
  • Incorporates current instructional technologies into the classroom.
  • Provides students with written and oral feedback in a timely fashion.
  • Teaches Math courses in the College's pre-Dual Enrollment programs.

Engagement:
  • Effectively communicates with students by email, phone, and face-to-face, as appropriate.
  • Maintains up-to-date and accurate records on student progress and academic achievement.

Professional Development:
  • Stays current with, and contributes to, developments in the various fields and disciplines within developmental Math.

Assessment:
  • Contributes to the development and implementation of student learning outcomes and appropriate evaluation methods.
  • Maintains quantitative and qualitative data to support student learning and outcome assessment.

Required Qualifications
Education:
  • Master's Degree in Mathematics or closely related field.

Experience:
  • Three (3) years of college or high school teaching experience, which must include the following:

Familiarity with Canvas or another learning management system (LMS)
Additional Requirements:
  • Must be available to hold required office hours during the week.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Five (5) years of teaching experience at a community college.
  • Doctoral degree in Mathematics or closely related field.
  • Experience with Banner ERP is a plus
