Early Career Construction Materials Testing Professional

WSP is currently initiating a search for an Early Career Construction Materials Testing Professional for the Durham, NC location. This candidate will have the opportunity to be involved in Construction Materials Testing, Special Inspection, and Geotechnical projects.

Your Impact

  • Perform testing and special inspections related to soils, reinforced concrete, and masonry on general building sites and facilities.
  • Interpret and monitor work procedures as per project plans and specifications for compliance with projects requirements.
  • Interact with client representative (supervisors, foremen, project managers, engineers, etc.) at project sites.
  • Prepare and submit written field reports summarizing daily activities/observations in a timely manner.
  • Support project management tasks such as scheduling, reports review, budget tracking, invoicing, proposal writing and business development.
  • Collaborating tasks and supporting cross functional teams.
  • Work in accordance with Company safety policies.
  • Perform analysis or calculations to check accuracy, applicability and reasonableness of testing data.

Who You Are

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering, or closely related discipline.
  • 0 - 1+ years of CMT, CQA, or related field experience.
  • Valid Driver's License and Good driving History.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, as well as critical thinking skills, a must.
  • Proficient self-leadership with attention to detail, multi-tasking, and prioritization of responsibilities in a dynamic work environment.
  • Ability to work independently under general supervision, as well as part of a team, to meet business objectives.
  • Basic proficiency with technical writing, office automation and communication software, technology, and tools.
  • Competent interpersonal and communication skills when interacting with others, expressing ideas effectively and professionally to a scientific and non-scientific audience.
  • Must pass drug test, physical and background check and possess a satisfactory driving record in accordance with the Company's driving (MVR) policy.
  • Will be routinely lifting equipment, installing soil borings with hand augers, and carrying laboratory sample coolers etc.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Internship or co-operative experience in construction materials testing, laboratory testing, or geotechnical engineering
  • ACI, NCDOT, or other industry certifications
  • Engineer Intern (EI) or Engineer in Training (EIT) certification
