Application Scientist

Located in St. Joseph, Michigan, LECO continues to be a family-owned company that understands the value of shared interests, long-term stability, loyalty, and trust.

Schedule: Full Time: 8:00am – 5:00pm, Monday – Friday

Position Summary:

Provide support to existing customers and the LECO sales team working with new and prospective customers. Participate in instrument demonstrations and customer sample submissions with Sales Engineers. Collaborate with Application Scientists in the development, support, and demonstration of analytical applications, fostering both technical and professional growth.

Position Responsibilities:
  • Interface with Sales Engineers and Customers to provide instrument application recommendations, technical support, and troubleshooting.
  • Support the development of analytical methods and validation data for LECO instruments, resulting in the preparation of comprehensive Application Notes.
  • Participate in preparation of customer reports and ensure compliance with department standards before distribution.
  • Collaborate with Application Scientists in developing, supporting, and demonstrating analytical applications to foster technical and professional growth.
  • Adhere to company protocols to identify and address quality issues and obligate as needed.
  • Operate, perform calibration, and maintain the analytical instruments.
  • Support the development and revise standard operating procedures for performance testing and quality verification, including analytical methods and documentation.
  • Deliver technical presentations of scientific work to both technical and non-technical audiences through webinars, conferences, and meetings.
  • Deliver hands‑on training on LECO instruments for new employees and the sales team.
  • Ensure ongoing improvement and ISO/IEC 17025:2017 and ISO 17034:2016 compliance.
  • Collaborate with Product Management, R&D, Sales, Service, and Production teams to support internal initiatives and address customer needs effectively.
  • Assume duties of Deputy Analytical Quality Manager and/or collaborate on other laboratory‑related initiatives when necessary.
Position Requirements:
  • Proficiency with MS Office, LECO instrumentation software, and LIMS.
  • Ability to multitask and collaborate effectively in a team environment
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Education/Certifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree in chemistry, materials science, or related scientific field.
