Job description

About Coastal Waste & Recycling

At Coastal Waste & Recycling, we're building more than a company, we're building a team. As one of the fastest-growing privately held waste and recycling companies in the Southeast, we're looking for people who take pride in their work, put safety first, and are ready to grow with us.

Lead Leaders. Strengthen Operations. Protect Our Environment.

Are you an experienced operations leader who enjoys developing people, optimizing complex facilities, and driving operational excellence? As an Operations Manager at Coastal Waste & Recycling, you'll oversee critical post-collection operations while developing Operations Supervisors, ensuring environmental compliance, and supporting the safe and efficient movement of materials.

At Coastal, our Operations Managers lead more than facilities-they build leaders, strengthen partnerships, improve operational performance, and help protect the communities we serve.

Your Role

As an Operations Manager, you'll oversee material recovery facilities (MRFs), landfills, disposal operations, and other post-collection functions. You'll develop Operations Supervisors while ensuring safe, compliant, and efficient facility operations, maintaining strong relationships with municipal partners, customers, regulators, and third-party vendors.

What You'll Do

  • Lead, coach, and develop Operations Supervisors while building a strong pipeline of future operational leaders.
  • Own the overall performance of your assigned post-collection operations, including safety, environmental compliance, staffing, facility operations, throughput, equipment utilization, employee engagement, and financial results.
  • Develop Operations Supervisors through regular one-on-one coaching, field observations, leadership development, performance feedback, and succession planning.
  • Own the staffing strategy for your operation by partnering with Operations Supervisors and the Career Path team to recruit, hire, onboard, develop, and retain exceptional employees.
  • Champion Coastal's safety culture by ensuring Operations Supervisors consistently execute daily safety huddles, coaching conversations, safety observations, and company safety initiatives throughout all assigned facilities.
  • Ensure transfer stations, material recovery facilities (MRFs), hauling operations, landfills, and other post-collection operations are operating safely, efficiently, and in compliance with all company standards and regulatory requirements.
  • Partner closely with technicians, Maintenance, Environmental, Safety, Engineering, and third-party vendors to maximize equipment reliability, facility uptime, and operational performance.
  • Oversee loader operators, heavy equipment operators, spotters, and facility personnel to ensure incoming material is safely directed, properly distributed, and processed efficiently while maximizing throughput.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with municipal representatives, environmental agencies, inspectors, customers, contractors, and community partners while ensuring contractual commitments are consistently met.
  • Monitor key operational and financial metrics-including throughput, labor, equipment utilization, vendor performance, operating costs, environmental compliance, and facility productivity-and implement strategies for continuous improvement.
  • Conduct regular facility inspections, operational reviews, and field observations to reinforce company standards and identify opportunities for improvement.
  • Lead through change by implementing new operational initiatives, technology, environmental programs, and process improvements across assigned facilities.
  • Foster collaboration across operations by partnering with fellow Operations Managers to share resources, solve operational challenges, and support company-wide success.
  • At Coastal, we win as a team. Operations Managers lead by example, develop exceptional leaders, strengthen our safety and environmental culture, and do whatever it takes to ensure safe, compliant, and efficient operations.

What You'll Bring

  • Progressive leadership experience in waste management, recycling, transfer stations, landfills, environmental services, manufacturing, mining, aggregates, logistics, or heavy industrial operations.
  • Experience leading leaders.
  • Strong operational, environmental, and business acumen.
  • Commitment to safety, compliance, and operational excellence.

Why You'll Love Working Here

  • Competitive Pay
  • Medical, Dental & Vision Benefits
  • 401(k) with Company Match
  • Paid Time Off
  • Leadership Development Opportunities
  • Opportunity to lead critical infrastructure that protects our communities and the environment.

Coastal Waste & Recycling is proud to be an Equal Opportunity Employer.
