Job description

Materials Manager

Manages, plans, coordinates and controls all activities related to the receipt, scheduling, storage, inventory control, and movement of all materials, parts and related services necessary to meet customer service commitments and other company goals.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Plans and manages the preparation and implementation of short and long-range inventory plans for raw materials, work in process, and finished goods to minimize material costs and meet delivery requirements of the customer(s).
  • Manages cycle counting to ensure a level of accuracy is maintained that meets our business and auditor's needs.
  • Oversees the preparation and implementation of short and long-term production plans, inventory levels and schedules that will allow the company to meet customer requirements properly while maintaining material inventory at lowest possible levels.
  • Plans and manages new product and/or feature introduction to production.
  • Provides a contingency planning service to marketing to understand the impact of new business opportunities.
  • Direct liaison for customer materials departments to maintain a thorough understanding of current and future product needs.
  • Ensures that the most efficient and cost-effective transportation of our goods and materials is used.
  • Prepares and recommends planning action involving Master Scheduling and Capacity Planning for a multi-plant operation.
  • Seeks out, pilot tests and introduces new production control methods to facilitate faster throughput and reduced inventory.
  • Maintains a high degree of integrity and fairness in dealings and transactions with all elements of the manufacturing cycle and regularly monitors that activity to ensure its consistency.
  • Establishes and recommends budgets for assigned functions and implements the necessary controls to keep expenditures within budget limits.
  • Performs miscellaneous related duties and carries out special projects as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum of 8+ years progressive experience in materials management including supervisory experience in inventory control and production control.
  • Must display a high level of maturity and sound judgment.
  • Attention to detail and solid organization skills required
  • Must communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
  • Must be familiar with current and evolving material and management systems.
  • Must interface easily with customers and other plants within the division and be capable of balancing risks and success factors so as to satisfy customer needs at the lowest cost.

Education and/or Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Industrial Engineering/Engineering.
  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience in Materials and/or related areas in manufacturing environment
