Job description

SUMMARY OF POSITION:

Under close supervision, performs material analysis as part of a cross-functional team.  This may include learning and using various instruments and different software to assist materials engineers on analyzing/characterizing various materials related to the design, performance, or failure of company products.

SPECIFIC DUTIES:

  1. Collaborate with materials researchers and engineers to understand sample characteristics.
  2. Learn how to do sample preparations (encapsulate, grind, polish and etch) for SEM and other instrument to assist engineers and designers in project tasks.
  3. Operate and maintain a variety of equipment to analyze and characterize various organic and inorganic materials. Equipment may include SEM, CSAM, XRF, XRD, XRF, TGA, TMA, DSC and rheometer.
  4. Assist in preparing technical data and reports as assigned.
  5. Assist in maintaining materials research records.
  6. Assist in ongoing division programs or initiatives as needed.  

BASIC JOB REQUIREMENTS:

INTERPERSONAL SKILLS: Must be able to participate in team projects.

COMMUNICATIONS: Must be able to communicate effectively with all levels of personnel and possess ability to produce written communications, prepare reports and documentation that are clear and concise.

SCHEDULING AND PLANNING: Must be able to work to the schedule described in a project plan.

EDUCATION: Successful completion of one year of college from an accredited four-year college or university with a major in materials science/chemistry required. 

EXPERIENCE: Demonstrated ability to perform the above functions. Prior work assignments in engineering-related activities preferred. 

OTHER SKILLS: SEM and XRD experience a plus.

EQUIPMENT OPERATED: Telephone, personal computer, and various lab test equipment.
