Job description
The Ambulatory Informatics Supervisor is responsible for supervising the informatics team and supporting ambulatory electronic health systems and related outpatient clinical applications.This role ensures the optimal use of current ambulatory software and oversees the successful implementation of new system functionalities and software updates for physician office practices and outpatient clinics. The Supervisor plays a critical role in guiding the team and collaborating with clinic management and IT leadership to align systems with ambulatory best practices and ensure the systems meet minimum mandatory regulatory requirements.
Essential Job Functions and Responsibilities:
- Supervise and coordinate activities related to the planning, design, development, implementation, training, evaluation, and maintenance of ambulatory electronic health systems across all outpatient departments.
- Provide guidance, mentorship, and leadership to ambulatory informatics team members.
- Complete employee annual performance reviews.
- Develop and manage work plans; ensure timely delivery of project milestones.
- Serve as project manager for system updates and new implementations within the ambulatory setting.
- Act as a liaison between IT, ambulatory clinical users, and leadership to ensure systems meet organizational goals.
- Create and maintain training materials and support documentation, provide training and instruction to EMR users in various outpatient settings, including on-site, one-on-one, and in groups.
- Maintain expert knowledge of ambulatory software and its alignment with organizational policies, procedures, and workflows.
- Collaborate with technical IT, medical staff, and administrative departments to optimize system functionality.
- Maintain knowledge in changing regulatory requirements and ensure compliance with regulatory mandates as they relate to the electronic health system functionality.
- Identify and communicate system issues and opportunities for improvement to IT ambulatory leadership teams.
- The individual in this role will perform other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
Education and Experience:
- Bachelor's degree required in related field.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in clinical information systems support role or analyst. In lieu of 5 years experience, a minimum of combined 3 years experience working in an ambulatory clinic setting as a medical assistance or administrative or supervising role combined with a minimum of 2 years of clinical information systems support role.
- Thorough knowledge of best practices for system analysis, developing documentation, scopes of work (SOWs), and performance evaluation for clinical and business systems.
- Experience with healthcare business systems such as revenue cycle, and patient billing.
- Skill in evaluating systems and recommending modifications to allow technology to meet clinical and business performance goals.
- Ability to partner with Clinical and Finance leadership to align reporting systems and support data-driven decision making.
- Skill in leading, guiding and evaluating performance and providing training to improve performance.
- Skill in evaluating systems and making recommendations for efficiency or listening to users and recommending modifications to allow computer systems to perform as needed.
- Ability to develop and effectively present complex technical data for a variety of non-technical audiences.
- Ability to communicate verbally and electronically in a clear, concise, and professional manner.
- Ability to lead and mentor other team members, including providing critical feedback, providing guidance for goal-setting, and guiding team members in improvement opportunities for performance and growth within their roles.

Bristol Hospital Mandated Educational Requirements:
Orientation at hire. Annual Competencies. Other unit based competencies/skills as required.
Physical Requirements:
Moderate walking, bending, stooping; physical and digital dexterity; occasional lifting of office supplies and materials. Extended sitting possible.
