Job Summary
The Material Handler is responsible for maintaining the safe, accurate, and efficient movement of incoming and outgoing products and materials throughout the facility. This position supports production, receiving, shipping, inventory, and internal customer needs while ensuring compliance with company safety, quality, and housekeeping standards.
Job Description
  • Follow all company policies, procedures, and guidelines related to workplace safety, product quality, hygiene, and housekeeping.
  • Read and interpret production schedules, customer orders, work orders, shipping orders, requisitions, and other documentation to determine materials and products to be moved, gathered, or distributed.
  • Transport materials and products from receiving and production areas to storage locations or other designated areas.
  • Sort and place materials or products on racks, shelves, or in bins according to predetermined specifications, including size, type, style, color, or product code.
  • Fill requisitions, work orders, and material requests and distribute required materials to production areas.
  • Assemble customer orders from stock and properly stage orders on pallets for shipment.
  • Mark or label materials with appropriate identifying information.
  • Open bales, crates, cartons, and other containers as required.
  • Accurately record quantities of materials and products received, moved, or distributed.
  • Weigh or count materials and products to ensure quantities and distribution conform to company standards.
  • Enter inventory and material movement information into warehouse computer systems accurately and promptly.
  • Operate forklifts and other material handling equipment to transport and position materials and products.
  • Load and unload trailers containing palletized and non-palletized products.
  • Safely utilize manual and automated material handling equipment.
  • Maintain safe and orderly work areas and follow appropriate safety and personal protection procedures.
  • Provide responsive and professional service to internal and external customers.
  • Contribute to department and division goals, results, productivity, and overall performance.
  • Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

Skills Required
  • 5-10 years of relevant warehouse, material handling, manufacturing, distribution, or related experience.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with team members, supervisors, management, and other personnel.
  • Ability to read and understand information displayed through warehouse computer software and other operational systems.
  • Basic computer skills and the ability to accurately enter and retrieve information.
  • Ability to understand and follow written and verbal instructions.
  • Ability to safely operate material handling equipment.
  • Must be able to sit, stand, hear, and see on a constant basis.
  • Must be able to walk, write, and type frequently.
  • Must be able to frequently lift and carry up to 30 pounds.
  • Must be able to occasionally lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
  • Must be able to climb and descend stairs.
  • Must be able to frequently bend, carry, reach, push, and pull.
  • Must be able to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
  • Must be able to operate a computer and communicate using a telephone.
  • May be required to work both indoors and outdoors.
  • May be exposed to temperatures ranging from approximately 0°F to 120°F.
  • May work in areas where noise levels require the use of hearing protection.
  • May be exposed to varying levels of dust and dirt.
  • May work on concrete and other warehouse or industrial surfaces.
  • Some travel to other company locations, meetings, and/or seminars may be required.
Preferred skills:
  • Previous experience in a manufacturing, warehouse, distribution, or production environment.
  • Experience with inventory control, shipping/receiving, or warehouse management systems.
  • Experience operating forklifts or other powered material handling equipment.

Pay Rate
