About the role: The Materials and Process Engineer supports the design and development of our aerospace Electric Powertrain components and establishes/improves production standards for the company. The role involves performing selection and validation of metallic and non-metallic materials, participating in qualification test programs, and leading the development of company-wide production processes to meet internal, customer, and regulatory requirements. This is an opportunity to join a fast-paced, cutting-edge company and take part in all phases of technology development and product lifecycle.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Lead the effort with cross-functional teams to establish, document, and improve internal Materials and Process specifications.
  • Provide M&P direction and guidance to design and manufacturing engineers on metallic and non-metallic parts, including selection, heat treating, non-destructive inspections, coatings, bonding, cleaning, and other production processes.
  • Create test plans and procedures for materials, processes, and qualifications.
  • Ensure M&P design requirements are met through the development and implementation of part designs, drawings, and manufacturing controls.
  • Collaborate with other departments through the whole life cycle of the product.
  • Collaborate with suppliers on establishing qualifications to relevant specifications, including magniX, regulatory, and industry standards.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor of Science or greater in Material Science, Chemical Engineering, or related field.
  • 7+ years of relevant experience in a highly regulated industry (aerospace preferred).

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Familiarity with FAA certification requirements.
  • Familiarity with integrated product development, certification, and quality control standards (ISO/IEC; 9001 AS9100).
  • Familiarity with standard methods for testing mechanical properties (including fatigue, fracture, creep, stress rupture) of metallic and soft materials.
  • Knowledge of industry standards for material data analysis (e.g. MMPDS, CMH-17).
  • Familiarity with production, test, and material qualification of aerospace composites such as; epoxy resins, bismaleimides, polyimides, layup and filament winding constructions, etc.
  • Experience related to sourcing, analyzing, manufacturing, and testing aerospace-grade materials such as forged and billet Al, Ti, stainless steel, etc.
  • Experience with statistical analysis methods and related tools, particularly for the generation of design allowables.

Location: Applicants must be willing and able to commute to magniX's location in Everett, Washington.
