Position Summary:

Take the lead in shaping the future of nondestructive inspection (NDI) at the renowned University of Dayton Research Institute (UDRI). As a Principal NDI Engineer and Team Lead within the Structural Materials division, you'll guide a talented group of researchers in developing cutting-edge NDI technologies that push the boundaries of materials science. This person will lead a team of NDE specialist. The team lead will support evaluating, performing, integrating and advancing NDE methods for aerospace applications. Inspection of aircraft structures, engines, and support components for damage due to in-service or manufacturing induced flaws will be performed on metallic and composite materials. Inspections will be performed in accordance with existing standards or to qualify new processes meeting those standards. NDE modalities of interest include ultrasonics, eddy current, fluorescent penetrant, magnetic particle, radiography and thermography. Duties include managing a team of 4 or more NDE team members, assigning tasks and providing technical guidance and mentoring. Managing financial, personnel, and programmatic aspects of the team. The team lead will coordinate and manage staff tasks, provide technical oversight, and provide analysis for test data and perform reporting.

Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor of Science degree in engineering, materials science, Aeronautics, or closely related engineering discipline, OR a minimum of 12 years direct experience in NDE principles and practices.
Experience in Eddy Current, Ultrasound, Radiography, magnetic particle, liquid penetrant.
Experience with Microsoft word, Power Point, Excel.
Experience with data interpretation for various techniques mentioned above.
Proficient written and oral communication skills.
Due to requirements of our research contracts with the U.S. federal government, candidates for this position must be a U.S. Citizen.

Preferred Qualifications:

While not everyone may possess all of the preferred qualifications, the ideal candidate will bring many of the following:

Demonstrated team leadership experience.
Demonstrated program management/financial management experience.
Extensive expertise related to NDE methods and techniques.
Expertise in nondestructive inspection for structural failure analysis.
Proficient in reading complex engineering drawings, specifications, and documentation related to aircraft systems.
Hands-on experience with aircraft or aircraft systems.
Experience working with Standards Development Organizations.
ASNT/NAS Level 2+ - Eddy Current, ultrasound, radiography.
ASNT/NAS 410 Level 3 radiographic inspection.
Secret Clearance.
Experience working with socially and culturally diverse communities.
