R&D Rubber Materials Chemist/Engineer
Prysmian Group
Prysmian Group is seeking a hands-on innovator and change champion with deep expertise in rubber and polymer materials to join our Product Development team. Reporting to the Product Development Manager, you will play a critical role in advancing our materials technology, formulation development and supporting the growth of high-performance cable solutions.
In this role, you will collaborate with internal teams and customers to understand application needs and engineer advanced rubber compounds that drive product performance, reliability, and manufacturability.
What You'll Do
As a Rubber Materials Chemist, you will own end-to-end development of elastomer-based solutions, from concept through commercialization:
  • Design, develop, and optimize rubber and elastomeric compounds for advanced applications
  • Conduct applied research and formulation work to improve material properties such as flexibility, durability, thermal resistance, and electrical performance
  • Lead new product development (NPD) initiatives, including requirement gathering, testing, validation, and commercialization
  • Modify and enhance existing rubber formulations to improve product functionality, cost-efficiency, and performance
  • Plan and execute laboratory experiments, pilot trials, and production-scale validations
  • Analyze mechanical, thermal, and electrical test data to drive material improvements and innovation
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with engineering, manufacturing, and commercial teams to successfully launch new products
  • Support new product introduction (NPI) and continuous improvement initiatives across business segments
  • Develop detailed technical documentation, formulations, and specifications for manufacturing scale-up
  • Stay at the forefront of advancements in rubber compounding, elastomer chemistry, and materials science

What You Bring
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering, Polymer/Materials Science, Chemistry, or related field
  • 3+ years of experience in rubber compounding, elastomer development, or materials engineering
  • Strong understanding of rubber formulation, additives, fillers, curing systems, and processing
  • Experience working in cross-functional teams in a manufacturing or product development environment
  • Passion for developing high-performance, cost-effective materials that drive business success

Preferred Qualifications
  • 3-7 years of hands-on experience in rubber or polymer product development
  • Experience supporting lab, pilot, and production trials in an industrial setting
  • Knowledge of applications such as cable insulation, jacketing, or industrial elastomers
  • Familiarity with material testing methods (mechanical, rheological, thermal, electrical)

Work Environment
  • Combination of lab, pilot, and office environments
