Northrop Grumman Aeronautics Systems has an opening for a experienced Materials & Processes Engineer / Principal Materials & Processes Engineer - 2nd Shift specializing in composite materials for airframe structures to join our team of qualified, diverse individuals within our Vehicle Engineering organization. Position located in Iuka, MS.

Key responsibilities:

  • Performs root cause analysis of material failures, provides effective solutions to production composite issues

  • Generates test plans & reports

  • Analyzes, researches, designs and develops materials and their related fabrication and application processes to develop and optimize materials for use in engineering design of and/or application in structures, systems and subsystems

  • Applies principles of chemistry, physics, and material behavior to develop non-metallic processing specifications, fabrication and assembly processes

  • Develops, analyzes and applies material properties and design allowables, processing processes and quality engineering specifications

  • Material analyses may include failure analysis of components, systems and subsystems, life predictions, and definition and requirement specifications

  • May review and approve subcontractor material processing procedures

  • May travel to subcontractor locations

Basic Qualifications:

(This requisition may be filled at either level based on qualifications below)

  • M&P Engineer (level 2) requires a minimum of a Bachelor of Science (BS) in a Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) discipline with a minimum of 2 years of experience to include a background in composite materials for airframe structures

  • Principal M&P Engineer (level 3) requires a minimum of a BS in a Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) discipline with a minimum of 5 years of experience to include a background in composite materials OR a Master of Science (MS) degree in a Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) discipline with a minimum of 3 years of experience to include a background in composite materials for airframe structures

  • Experience with composite fabrication and design on aircraft

  • Experience with repair processes composite materials used in aerospace structures

  • Must have the ability to obtain and maintain a DoD Secret Clearance prior to start

  • Must have the ability to obtain and maintain Special Access Program (SAP) Clearance

  • Ability to perform this role 2nd shift.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Degree discipline in Materials Science or similar

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills

  • Ability to collaborate in a team environment

  • Ability to prioritize multiple responsibilities and/or accomplishing them simultaneously

  • Ability to comprehend and analyze complex problems and develop solutions

  • Experience with military specs and standards

  • Experience interfacing with a military customer

Primary Level Salary Range: $75,100.00 - $112,700.00Secondary Level Salary Range: $93,300.00 - $139,900.00The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives.
