Job description

Construction Materials Project Manager

Requisition Number: 2026-1610-06

S&ME is seeking a Construction Materials Project Manager to join our Construction Services team, supporting both our Columbia, South Carolina, and Augusta, Georgia offices. If you're an experienced Project Manager specializing in Construction Materials Testing (CMT) and Special Inspection (SI) who's ready to take on more complex projects, expand your technical and leadership skills, and work with a fun, collaborative team, we'd love to hear from you.

As a Construction Materials Testing Project Manager, you will lead projects from kickoff through closeout, ensuring quality, compliance, and client satisfaction throughout each phase. You'll play a key role in driving project success by overseeing technical execution, mentoring field and engineering staff, and fostering strong client and contractor relationships. Your work directly contributes to construction quality, structural integrity, and long-term project performance. Through a balance of project management, field oversight, technical expertise, and business development, you will help advance operational excellence and support the continued growth of the organization.

Your Day-to-Day:

  • Project Leadership & Execution: Manage CMT and Special Inspection projects from start to finish, including budgeting, scheduling, resource coordination, and technical oversight, while ensuring compliance with plans, specifications, and IBC requirements.
  • Client & Contractor Collaboration: Work closely with clients and contractors through meetings and site visits to confirm project requirements, review progress, and maintain strong, service-driven relationships.
  • Technical Oversight & Mentorship: Lead inspections, review field documentation, and mentor technicians and engineers to ensure accurate testing, quality reporting, and adherence to project specifications.
  • Reporting, Proposals & Quality Control: Oversee reports, proposals, scopes of work, and cost estimates to ensure accuracy, alignment with project needs, and timely delivery.
  • Business Development & Networking: Build and maintain client relationships, participate in industry organizations (e.g., ASCE, AGC, ACEC), and support marketing efforts to grow local market presence and generate new opportunities.

What You Bring:

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil, Geotechnical, or a related Engineering discipline
  • Minimum of 4 years of Construction Materials Testing (CMT) and Special Inspection (SI) experience, including at least 2 years in a project management role
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license or the ability to obtain within 6 months of hire
    • Active ICC, ACI, and DOT certifications preferred
  • Strong working knowledge of applicable ACI, ASTM, AASHTO, DOT standards, and IBC Special Inspections requirements
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with strong attention to detail
  • Ability to develop, review, and deliver accurate technical reports and project documentation
