This position plays an important role in keeping the project moving by ensuring materials, equipment, tools, and supplies are received correctly, properly documented, organized, and available to field teams when needed.

The Opportunity

As an Inventory Control Specialist, you will help manage the flow of construction materials from delivery through installation.

You'll work closely with project management, field leadership, purchasing, vendors, and tradespeople to maintain accurate inventory records, coordinate deliveries, track material movement, and identify shortages or discrepancies before they impact the project schedule.

This is a hands-on position that requires strong organization, attention to detail, and the ability to work effectively in an active construction environment.

What You Will Do

  • Track materials from receipt through storage, issuance, and installation
  • Organize and maintain designated material storage, laydown, and staging areas
  • Label and identify materials to ensure they can be easily located and distributed
  • Issue materials and equipment to field personnel and maintain appropriate records
  • Perform routine physical inventory counts and reconcile discrepancies
  • Identify shortages, damaged materials, incorrect deliveries, and missing items
  • Communicate material issues promptly to project management and purchasing
  • Coordinate with vendors, suppliers, and project personnel regarding deliveries and material status
  • Assist with scheduling and coordinating material deliveries to the jobsite
  • Track high-value equipment and materials to reduce loss, damage, and unnecessary reordering
  • Maintain organized electronic and physical inventory documentation
  • Support material forecasting and help identify upcoming project needs
  • Assist with returns, transfers, surplus materials, and project closeout
  • Maintain clean, safe, and organized storage and material-handling areas
  • Follow company and project safety requirements at all times
What We're Looking For
  • 2+ years of inventory control, material management, warehouse, logistics, or construction-related experience
  • Experience working with inventory tracking, receiving, shipping, or material documentation
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Ability to accurately maintain records and reconcile inventory
  • Comfortable working in a construction site, warehouse, or material yard environment
  • Basic computer skills, including Microsoft Excel and electronic inventory or purchasing systems
  • Ability to read purchase orders, packing slips, bills of lading, and material lists
  • Strong communication and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities
  • Valid driver's license
  • Ability to safely lift and move construction materials as required
Preferred Qualifications
  • Previous experience with a mechanical, plumbing, HVAC, piping, or commercial construction contractor
  • Familiarity with HVAC, plumbing, piping, valves, fittings, hangers, equipment, and other mechanical construction materials
  • Experience supporting large commercial or institutional construction projects
  • Experience with construction management, purchasing, ERP, or inventory management software
  • Forklift or material-handling equipment experience or certification
  • Experience coordinating deliveries and maintaining jobsite laydown or material storage areas
