Job description

Material Handler

Delivers and distributes work in process (WIP), finished goods (FG), and raw materials (RM) to various locations within the facility to ensure that production equipment is always stocked for operation and shipments are received or delivered on time. Ensures that materials are always available by performing periodic/routine inventory audits. May be assigned to Production or Warehouse; duties may vary depending on work area.

Key Responsibilities (dependent of assignment)

  • Accurately and timely scans materials from and to various locations.
  • Safely operates forklift equipment, ensuring safety of nearby associates; maintains Nomaco certification for operating fork trucks (Gas / Electric) and battery changing equipment.
  • Completes forklift safety checklist at beginning of every shift; notifies supervisor, or manager if repair is needed.
  • Reports any/all equipment, building, product, and/or general damage to management.
  • Maintains a clean and orderly work environment, including sweeping, dusting, and mopping.
  • Assists in counting physical inventory to audit correct locations and quantities.
  • Performs other duties as requested, directed, or assigned.

Required Skills & Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Valid forklift certification/license.
  • Two years of forklift experience and/or training.
  • Ability to read and interpret safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to add and subtract 2-digit numbers and to multiply and divide with 10's and 100's.
  • Processes materials and location identification ability with training and assistance as needed.
  • Load and unload materials in warehouse and on or off pallets, skids, or lifting devices.
  • Verify accuracy of incoming or outbound orders (i.e. inspect, accept or reject materials).
  • Cycle-count raw materials or finished goods and monitor inventory, periodically as needed.
  • Maintain a safe and clean work environment in the warehouse.
  • Ability to hand-load up to 35 lbs. into outbound trucks.
  • Must be able to use a laptop/tablet to look up inventory locations and reference shipping instructions.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Physical/ Safety Requirements

  • Sit for long periods on moving machinery.
  • Use fingers, hands, and arms to operate equipment and to lift, reach, and move materials.
  • Stand, walk, stoop, kneel, or crouch.
  • Lift and/or move up to 50 lbs. with assistance.
  • Adherent to PPE guidelines for work area.

Work Environment

  • Manufacturing area and onsite or offsite warehouse.
  • Temperature ranges from 25°F-120°F.
  • Loud areas.
