Job description

The Material Handler is responsible for receiving, issuing, staging, and controlling all materials flowing through the warehouse.

A day in the life:
  • Maintain strict adherence to all company safety rules, regulations, procedures and practices.
  • Maintain a neat, clean and professional appearance at all times. This applies to the individual as well as his/her truck, tools, and equipment as well as customer property.
  • Receive, inspect, store, locate and issue material, and prepare required documentation and records.
  • Accept materials as shipments arrive to the warehouse.
  • Check freight bills and purchase orders against physical shipment for numbers, damage, etc. Initiate new packing lists if discrepancies occur.
  • Coordinate offloading of materials.
  • Photograph damages, document overages and/or shortages in material shipment discrepancies. Tag all material with appropriate Purchase Order, receiver, and/or tag numbers.
  • Place material in proper area according to storage and handling lists; initiate storage change and document new location when necessary.
  • Maintain warehouse organization and cleanliness, etc. - report problems to supervisor.
  • Issue material as directed, locate material, assist in material removal, and insure documentation is complete and accurate.
  • Locate and prepare material for outbound shipment. Notify supervisor when shipment is ready; coordinate loading.
  • Keep up to date inventory of tools-number, condition, location.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor.

You should have:
  • Minimum of 3 years warehousing and forklift experience.
  • Basic knowledge of electrical, plumbing, HVAC and piping material.
  • Working knowledge of material control procedures, techniques, systems, etc.
  • Ability to identify hazards and applicable safety rules and precautions
  • Ability to work within precise limits or standards of accuracy
  • Ability to coordinate and perform multiple activities in a timely manner.
  • Ability to work without direct supervision.
  • Ability to deal diplomatically and effectively with vendors, suppliers, coworkers, and customers.
