Match Move Artist information

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Match Move Artist, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Match Move Artist, you need a solid understanding of 3D tracking, camera movement, and compositing principles, often supported by a degree in visual effects, animation, or a related field. Proficiency in industry-standard software like Autodesk Maya, 3DEqualizer, PFTrack, and familiarity with compositing tools such as Nuke is typically essential. Strong attention to detail, problem-solving skills, and the ability to communicate effectively with VFX and animation teams set outstanding Match Move Artists apart. These skills are crucial to accurately integrating CGI elements into live-action footage and maintaining the visual consistency needed for high-quality visual effects.

What are Match Move Artists?

Match Move Artists, also known as matchmovers, are professionals in the visual effects (VFX) industry who align computer-generated imagery (CGI) with live-action footage. They use specialized software to track camera movements and recreate them in a 3D environment, ensuring that digital elements fit seamlessly into real-world scenes. This process is essential for integrating CGI characters, objects, or effects into films, television shows, and commercials. Match Move Artists work closely with other VFX departments to ensure accuracy and realism in the final product.

What are some common challenges Match Move Artists face when integrating live-action footage with CGI elements?

Match Move Artists often encounter challenges such as dealing with imperfect or inconsistent camera data, lens distortion, and unpredictable lighting conditions on set. Accurately tracking camera movement and replicating it digitally is crucial to ensure seamless integration of CGI elements with live-action footage. Collaborating closely with VFX supervisors and compositors is essential, as they provide feedback and guidance to refine the match move process. Attention to detail and problem-solving skills are key to overcoming these technical hurdles and producing realistic visual effects.

Artists Wanted โ€” Bring Your Hands and Your Eye for Color

Painters, sculptors, whittlers, sketchers, tinkerers โ€” this one's for you. At Surface Experts, your artistic instincts aren't a hobby you leave at home. They're the whole job.
Every repair is a tiny, one-of-a-kind puzzle: a different color to match, a different sheen to nail, a different material to work with. No two are alike, so you're improvising, mixing, and problem-solving your way to an invisible fix โ€” usually in a couple of hours. When you're done, the damage simply disappears. That's the art.
And yes โ€” you'll get your hands dirty. This is real, physical, hands-on work: kneeling on floors, blending materials, feeling out textures, working on-site in apartments, hotels, and construction zones. If you love making things with your hands and have a good eye for color, this is a paycheck for the way your brain already works.

WHAT WE OFFER

  • Base Salary + Bonus: Performance-based commissions on top of your hourly
  • Real Work/Life Balance: No required overtime. No nights. No weekends.
  • Time Off: Paid holidays and accruable vacation at 6 months
  • Flexible Schedule: We can accommodate midweek appointments with advance notice
  • Paid Training: Learn the craft alongside a seasoned technician from day one
  • Company Car: Drive a branded company vehicle for the job
  • Tools Included: Every tool and product you need, provided
  • A Brand-New Trade: Get in early on an emerging craft few people have mastered
  • A Team That Has Your Back: We celebrate wins and solve problems together
  • Small-Business Feel: Local owner, close-knit crew
  • Mentorship: Ongoing training and real career growth
  • Support On Call: A dedicated Technician Support Team for your questions
WHAT YOU'LL DO
Out in the field, every day:
  • Complete repairs on-site, start to finish
  • Work on-location with great communication and customer care
  • Adapt to all kinds of settings โ€” apartments, hotels, moving sites, construction sites, and more
Take care of customers:
  • Treat residents and staff like they are the reason you're there (because they are)
  • Log your progress and notes in our software
  • Troubleshoot alongside our Support Team when something's tricky
Master the craft:
  • Learn our one-of-a-kind 5-step process and make it your own
  • Get to know every tool in your personalized kit
  • Flex your artistic muscle โ€” every repair needs a fresh solution
WHAT YOU BRING
  • Hands-on experience with some kind of manual or creative work โ€” construction, manufacturing, painting, sculpting, music, baking, you name it
  • A facilities-maintenance or handyman background is a nice bonus, but not a dealbreaker
  • A sharp eye for color โ€” you can see, distinguish, and replicate colors, because color matching is at the heart of what we do (if you are colorblind...this isn't for you)
ABOUT SURFACE EXPERTS
We fix minor damage on all kinds of hard surfaces โ€” bathtubs, cabinets, floors, appliances, countertops, furniture, elevator panels and more! By pairing traditional trades with our own original process and products, we make repairs that last and look great โ€” all with a smile.
Most companies want to resurface everything (which we can do if we have to), even a scratch a few inches wide. We fix the spot, not the whole surface. That means happy customers who save time and money, call us back again and again, and keep one more damaged surface out of the landfill. A typical repair leaves no mess, no smell, and takes under two hours โ€” usually just a tablespoon or two of product, so everything you need fits in a small kit.
OUR VISION โ€” To build and lead a nationally recognized market for surface repair as the smart alternative to replacement or full resurfacing and to make our brand mean "spot repair" to facilities and maintenance managers everywhere.
OUR MISSION โ€” To build outstanding teams through strong relationships, and to solve our customers' problems by cutting the waste of time, money, and materials headed for the landfill.
OUR VALUES
  • Serve Others โ€” Put relationships first. No jerks. Be humble.
  • Be a Problem Solver โ€” Stay curious, find the root cause, work smart, keep improving.
  • Trust the Process โ€” Stay organized, stay teachable, put the business's needs above personal wants.
