Job description

Our Advanced Analytics Modelers translate raw data into actionable business information.

This role, in our Personal Lines Department, applies economic, quantitative, and statistical skills in the development of underwriting, pricing, financial, and claims models to achieve profitable growth and make sound business decisions across areas of Sentry Insurance.

This position can be filled as an Advanced Analytics Modeler I or Advanced Analytics Modeler II depending on the qualifications and experience of the selected candidate.

What You'll Do

  • Identify components of insurance costs and estimate the expected values by risk.

  • Identify data sources, build necessary data queries using SQL/ETL queries, and verify data quality.

  • Apply data science tools and various statistical techniques such as regression, decision trees and neural networks to build, validate, and implement models for solving business problems.

  • Monitor existing models and processes to ensure performance and data quality.

  • Estimate the economic impact of operational decisions.

  • Lead analysis of business data to provide insights and business recommendations.

  • Lead analysis of business strategies to measure overall effectiveness.

  • Manage multiple modeling and statistical projects, including timelines, personnel, and communication with project sponsors.

What it Takes

  • Masters Degree required or equivalent work experience.

  • PhD or Masters in applied math, statistics, operations research, economics, finance, or related quantitative field strongly preferred.

  • Experience in the insurance industry preferred.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to effectively collaborate with multi-disciplinary groups and all organizational levels.

  • Demonstrated proficiency in statistical software tools such as Python, R, or SAS.

  • Knowledge of data extraction, validation, and practical application of statistical modeling techniques.
