About the Role:
The Special Education Teacher plays a critical role in fostering an inclusive and supportive learning environment tailored to students with diverse learning needs and disabilities. This position is dedicated to developing and implementing individualized education programs (IEPs) that promote academic achievement, social development, and emotional well-being. The teacher collaborates closely with families, general education teachers, and support staff to ensure that each student receives appropriate accommodations and interventions. Through specialized instruction and behavior management strategies, the teacher helps students overcome challenges and reach their full potential. Ultimately, this role contributes to creating an equitable educational experience that empowers students to succeed both inside and outside the classroom.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelorโs or masters degree in Special Education.
- Valid state certification or licensure in Special Education.
- Demonstrated experience in classroom instruction and behavior management for students with special needs.
- Knowledge of child development principles and literacy instruction techniques.
- Ability to develop and implement Individualized Education Programs (IEPs).
Preferred Qualifications:
- Masterโs degree in Special Education or Educational Leadership.
- Experience with reading intervention programs and elementary education settings.
- Training or certification in behavior management strategies such as PBIS or ABA.
- Familiarity with assistive technology and adaptive learning tools.
- Experience collaborating in multidisciplinary teams and working with diverse student populations.
Responsibilities:
- Design, implement, and adapt individualized education programs (IEPs) based on student assessments and needs.
- Deliver specialized instruction in literacy, reading intervention, and other core subjects tailored to students with disabilities.
- Manage classroom behavior using positive behavior management techniques to create a safe and productive learning environment.
- Collaborate with parents, general education teachers, and multidisciplinary teams to monitor student progress and adjust instructional strategies.
- Maintain accurate records of student performance, behavior, and progress toward IEP goals.
- Participate in professional development opportunities to stay current with best practices in special education and child development.
- Provide support and guidance to students to foster social skills, independence, and self-advocacy.
