Masters In Social Work is an academic degree required to pursue licensure as a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW). While MSW provides foundational knowledge, becoming an LCSW involves obtaining licensure, which allows for independent clinical practice. The MSW degree opens doors to various social service roles, whereas the LCSW credential is necessary for licensed clinical therapy and private practice.

Is it easy to get a job with a master's in social work?

A master's in social work (MSW) is a highly valued qualification for social work positions, and job availability depends on factors such as location, experience, and specialization. While many roles require an MSW and licensure, competition can vary, and gaining practical experience through internships or fieldwork can improve employment prospects.

Is it worth doing a master's in social work?

A master's in social work (MSW) prepares individuals for advanced roles in social services, counseling, and community work, often leading to higher salaries and increased job opportunities. It also provides essential skills such as case management, advocacy, and clinical practice, which are valued in the field. Completing an MSW can be a worthwhile investment for those seeking to advance their career and make a greater impact in social services.

What can I do with a master's in social work?

A master's in social work prepares individuals for roles such as clinical social worker, case manager, school social worker, or community service manager. Graduates can work in healthcare, mental health, child welfare, or nonprofit organizations, often requiring licensure or certification depending on the state or setting.

Liquid Personnel is recruiting a Children's Social Worker to join its client's Disabled Children's team, based in Devon.
An excellent opportunity has arisen for an experienced Social Worker to join the Disabled Children's Service in South Devon. This is a full-time position (37 hours, Monday-Friday) offering a balance of home and office working, with attendance in Totnes required for duty days (minimum 1-2 days per week) and visits across the locality.

What will your responsibilities be?

You will hold a caseload of children and young people, including CIN, CP and Children in Care, with a focus on children with disabilities. The role involves statutory casework, assessments, care planning and multi-agency working to ensure safeguarding and positive outcomes.

Benefits:

  • Competitive rate up to 38 per hour
  • 150 per week accommodation/commuter allowance (subject to eligibility - currently in place until March 2026)

  • Minimum 3 years' post-qualifying experience
  • Current Social Work England registration
  • Recent/ongoing CIN/CP/LAC case-holding experience (Children with Disabilities experience desirable)
  • Full UK driving licence and access to own vehicle

Due to the rural nature of Devon, travel is essential and public transport will not be sufficient for visits.

If you are an experienced children's social worker seeking a well-paid contract with a generous weekly allowance to support relocation or commuting costs, this is a strong opportunity to consider.
