Our Optical Communications segment has recently evolved from being a manufacturer of optical fiber and cable, hardware and equipment to being a comprehensive provider of industry-leading optical solutions across the broader communications industry.This segment is classified into two main product groupings - carrier network and enterprise network. The carrier network product group consists primarily of products and solutions for optical-based communications infrastructure for services such as video, data and voice communications. The enterprise network product group consists primarily of optical-based communication networks sold to businesses, governments and individuals for their own use.

Role Purpose

The CPO Commercial Technology Manager is responsible for establishing a deep understanding of the application and technology trends of our target market and ensuring that our product, process, and commercial strategies are appropriately aligned. This position requires in-depth knowledge of optoelectronic designs/challenges and frequent engagements with subject matter experts at our key customers and partners. The role is part of Photonic Connectivity Solutions Business Team and multinational in scope with a primary focus on customers and partners in East and Central US.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop a deep understanding of current and future market needs in terms of applications and technologies, in the context of a rapidly evolving technology, market, and competitive framework (including the threat of new technology substitutions)
  • Participate in mapping out market trends and technology roadmaps, and from there identify key gaps and recommendations both in terms of technology capabilities and new products
  • Establish ongoing and trusting relationships with technical counterparts amongst our primary customers and partners within the CPO ecosystem
  • Actively participate, and contribute where needed, in relevant standards and industry forums with the goal of establishing Corning as a strong player in the areas of Silicon Photonics and other CPO-relevant technologies
  • Work closely with PLM in estimating Corning's addressable market and share potential in CPO
  • In close collaboration with PLM and Marketing, help refine our value proposition in the context of a deep understanding of the applications and use cases of our CPO solutions
  • Support PLM, Technology, Research, Sales and Marketing teams as a commercial technology SME throughout the lifecycle of all our CPO solutions
Required Education
  • Master's or Doctorate Degree in Physics, Engineering, Applied Science, or equivalent fields
  • 10+ years of experience in a technology or product development function in a technical/OEM setting
  • Experience in managing complex projects and leading multi-functional teams in a fast-paced competitive environment
  • Experience in directly or indirectly leading a team of technology and product developers
  • Deep understanding of optics, glass as a material, optical fiber properties, and Silicon Photonics
  • Ease with frequent customer engagements at a technical level, comprehend technical needs and convey effective value propositions
  • Ability to collaborate across functional boundaries to solve problems and develop solutions
  • Ability to mobilize and influence people within and outside the organization to meet objectives
  • Proven ability to self-manage and prioritize multiple tasks in an efficient, focused manner
Desired Experiences
  • Knowledge/experience in the field of signal integrity
  • Experience working with OSATs and silicon foundries
  • MBA or equivalent demonstrated experience (i.e., extensive experience in business)
  • Work experience in PLM, Manufacturing, Systems Engineering, and/or Product Development in a fast paced OEM context
  • International perspective and business work experience
  • Participation in, or leadership of, multicultural and/or multi-geographic project

The range for this position is $126,366.00 - $173,753.00 assuming full time status. Starting pay for the successful applicant is dependent on a variety of job-related factors, including but not limited to geographic location, market demands, experience, training, and education.
