Here’s how you will support our mission

CBC is seeking two (2) enthusiastic, collaborative, andforward-thinking individuals to join our faculty as tenure-trackAssistant Professors for Library Services. Because the Libraryprovides instructional and operational services throughout theyear, these positions are based on a 200-day annual workschedule.

  • Position 1 : A year-round appointment focused oninformation literacy instruction, research assistance, campusengagement, collection development, and student support. Thisposition additionally supports the instructional and operationalneeds of the Library during summer quarter and serves as the leadfor the organization and stewardship of the College's historicalarchives.
  • Position 2: A year-round appointment that maintains theabove core faculty librarianship duties while also serving as theprimary operational lead for the Library's integrated librarysystem, electronic resources (eResources), and related librarytechnologies.

Both positions report to the Director of LibraryServices.

The salary range for this position is $82,105-$86,261 for a 200-daycontract over the Instructional Year (Fall/Winter/Spring/SummerQuarters).

Relocation expenses are part of the employment offer for thesuccessful candidate if the candidate relocates to the Tri-Citiesarea from outside of a 175-mile radius.

Primary Responsibilities

GENERAL QUALITIES REQUIRED

Successful candidates will demonstrate the following keycompetencies and qualities:

  • Commitment to the community college mission, especially atHispanic Serving Institutions (HSIs);
  • Commitment to shared governance and staying current in one'sdiscipline;
  • Willingness to become involved in campus activities beyondone's discipline;
  • Ability to foster positive working relationships throughcollaboration, professionalism, enthusiasm, and a proactivecommitment to supporting students and colleagues;
  • Ability to teach individuals from diverse backgroundseffectively; and
  • Ability and willingness to participate in the design andmeasurement of learning outcomes and institutional effectivenessefforts.

Required Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in Library Science or a related field from anAmerican Library Association (ALA) accredited program; and
  • Experience working with diverse populations of faculty andstudents in higher education.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience providing in-person or online referenceservices.
  • Experience providing impactful classroom instruction in ahigher education environment.
  • Experience with library assessment.
  • Demonstrated commitment to student-centered library instructionand services, particularly in a HSI community college setting.
  • Familiarity with innovative approaches to promoting libraryservices.
  • Experience with Open Educational Resources (OER) includinglicensing and copyright.
  • Knowledge of archival processing, digital preservation,metadata standards, and the use of primary source materials tosupport teaching and learning. Position 1 only
  • Familiarity with managing electronic resources, proxy servicemanagement, and discovery layers. Position 2only
  • Bilingual in English and in Spanish.

This is a bargaining unit position represented by the Associationfor Higher Education (AHE). Compensation and benefits are subjectto the collective bargaining process. This position is availableimmediately. This is a tenure track position and will begin thethree-year tenure process in the first full quarter of employment.More information about the tenure process can be found in Chapter28B.50 RCW governing Washington State Community and TechnicalColleges.

Successful candidates must meet the following requirements:

  • Provide proof of lawful permanent residency or otherappropriate work authorization as required by the ImmigrationReform Control Act of 1986.
  • Disclose any substantiated findings or any ongoinginvestigations related to sexual misconduct as required by RCW28B.112.080.
  • Pass a criminal background check. Note: information learnedduring the criminal background check will not necessarily precludeemployment but may be a factor in eligibility for theposition.
  • Maintain an alcohol-free and drug-free workplace duringemployment.
  • Verify education at time of hire.
