Job description

The Academy Charter Schools offers an exceptional interdisciplinary curriculum in a technology rich environment that challenges students to explore connections across subjects and use experiential learning to bridge the gaps between theory and practice. The Academy's focus on character development and community service cultivates a student body poised to be active, engaged and responsible members of the community.
The mission of the library media program is to ensure that students are effective users of ideas and information. The Library Media Specialist (LMS) is responsible for working collaboratively with the School Administration to develop and coordinate library and educational technology programs that supports the curriculum. The Library Media Specialist interacts daily with students, teachers, administrators, and other district staff. They supervise and manage the school library/media center by developing and maintaining a media center collection rich in both print and non-print material. They will also provide services and resources that allow students to develop skills in locating, evaluating, synthesizing, and using information to solve problems. The Library Media Specialist will serve as teacher, materials expert, technology expert, and curriculum adviser to ensure that library/media center is integrated into the instructional programs of the school.
Essential Functions
  • Work collaboratively with colleagues and administration to establish evidence-based, measurable goals driven by the school improvement plan, and to assist with evaluating the effectiveness and quality of the school library program.
  • Ensure the effective integration of the American Association of School Librarians' learning standards through the use of coaching and cooperative teaching methods.
  • Serve as an advocate for the school's library programs and services by utilizing a variety of communication and technology tools.
  • Participate in professional growth activities that result in enhanced knowledge of best practices in school library programs.
  • Collaborate with staff to select, implement, and adapt information literacy skills in support of curriculum across all content areas.
  • Implement and manage all library resources.
  • Ensure equitable and ethical use of information.
  • Teach students to follow an inquiry process as they ask questions, evaluate and collect information from multiple sources to construct understanding by thinking critically.
  • Encourage the use of instructional technology to engage students and to improve learning.
  • Provide 24/7 access to digital information resources for the entire learning community.

Pay Transparency: The salary range for this role is $62,500 - $85,000. Base pay offered may vary within the posted range based on several factors, including but not limited to education, job-related knowledge, skills, experience, and location.

Requirements
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
  • Bachelor's Degree in Library Science or related subject required; Master's Degree preferred
  • Library Media Specialist Certification preferred.
  • Previous experience in a High School setting preferred.
