Opportunity Information

Since 1994, the Institute for Health & Healing (IHH) at Sutter Health has been a pioneer in integrative health care - California's first state-certified clinic combining conventional medicine with evidence-based complementary therapies.

As part of IHH in San Francisco, you will join a mission-driven, philanthropy-based community and employee-care program dedicated to whole-person wellness.

Our team-based model emphasizes team collaboration, prevention, and personalized healing journeys.

Team Structure & Culture:

You will be part of an expansive and diverse integrative health team, including:

  • 4 primary-care integrative medicine physicians

  • 3 nurse practitioners

  • 2 specialty integrative medicine physicians

  • Chiropractor

  • 2 acupuncturists

  • 2 massage therapists

  • Nutritionist

  • 2 psychotherapists

This rich multidisciplinary mix enables a robust "mind, body, spirit" approach - allowing you to engage in integrative physician consults, coordinate care, and partner with complementary-therapy colleagues to deliver personalized whole-person care.

Position Details:

  • Full-time position, .8-1.0 FTE (flexible within that range)

  • Outpatient setting; no inpatient or call responsibilities

  • Incorporate both conventional and complementary therapies - including nutrition, mind-body practices, supplements, and lifestyle medicine - into personalized treatment plans.

  • Serve as a physician consultant for patients referred by Sutter colleagues or community providers who are seeking integrative approaches to complex or chronic conditions.

  • Support continuity and quality of care by maintaining accurate, timely documentation within the electronic health record.

  • Participate in community education, employee wellness programs, and philanthropic initiatives promoting whole-person health.

Qualifications

Core Qualifications

  • Medical Degree: MD or DO from an accredited medical school.

  • Completion of an accredited residency (family medicine, internal medicine, or specialty)

Preferred or Specialized Qualifications

Integrative/Functional Medicine Training:

  • Formal fellowship training (1-2 years) or certification in Integrative Medicine, Functional Medicine (IFM), or a similar program.

  • Experience integrating complementary modalities such as acupuncture, nutrition, mind-body medicine, herbal medicine, mindfulness, or yoga therapy.

  • Board Certification in Integrative Medicine through the American Board of Integrative Medicine (ABOIM) or completion of an approved fellowship in Integrative Medicine highly preferred

Philosophical Alignment:

  • Demonstrated interest in whole-person care - mind, body, and spirit.

  • Comfort working in a collaborative, multidisciplinary team that includes physicians, NPs, acupuncturists, nutritionists, and behavioral health specialists.
