Job description

Description
The Department of Biobehavioral Nursing and Health Informatics (BNHI) within the University of Washington School of Nursing invites applications for a non-tenure eligible research faculty position at the rank of Assistant or Associate Research Professor. We seek applicants who demonstrate commitment to excellence in research and service in a diverse and inclusive academic community. The successful candidate will join our faculty on a 50%-100% FTE basis for a twelve-month (i.e., year-round), 3-year renewable term appointment beginning July 1, 2027. The successful candidate will be appointed at an FTE commensurate with established funding they bring to the UW.
The full-time base salary range for this position will be $10,815-$12,240 per month if appointed at the Assistant rank or $13,005-$13,770 per month if appointed at the Associate rank, commensurate with experience and qualifications, or as mandated by a U.S. Department of Labor prevailing wage determination. If appointed at less than full-time, the applicable salary range will be prorated commensurate with assigned FTE. Please note that sponsorship for a visa or permanent residence will not be possible for those appointed at less than full-time.
The successful candidate will be expected to:
  • Engage, grow, and leverage expertise in an area of human health research consistent with nursing science and BNHI research priorities
  • Maintain and continually pursue sufficient grant or other external funding to support a minimum 50% FTE appointment for 3-years
  • Demonstrate high-quality scholarly productivity through a track record of peer-reviewed publications and grant funding
  • Mentor a diverse range of students in research methods, clinical sciences or other related areas (or didactic teaching experience that supports excellence in mentorship)
  • Innovate and adapt research focus in response to changes in funding opportunities
  • Collaborate within the School of Nursing, across the University of Washington and/or other research settings to enhance research impact and funding security

Candidates will be considered across a range of research interests including, but not limited to health informatics, implementation science, digital health, biobehavioral science, technology-based research and interventions including artificial intelligence and machine learning, clinical/genetic epidemiology, precision health, biomarker research, health equity, aging and cognitive health, community-engaged research, and health services and outcomes research.
Research faculty appointed at the Assistant Professor rank are subject to mandatory review for promotion if reappointed to a second three-year term. Promotion in the Research Professorial track is based on evaluation of scholarship and service. Research faculty are expected to engage in mentoring others in the conduct of research, but they are not expected to lead didactic courses.

Qualifications
Applicants for this research faculty position must meet the following minimum qualifications:
  • PhD (or foreign equivalent) in Nursing Science or a related field such as, Epidemiology, Psychology, Clinical Research, Health Informatics-related by the time of appointment
