Summary
This is an exciting time to work for Amarillo College! We are seeking a Part-Time Professional Tutor - West Campus Academic Success Center who will support student learning, retention, and academic success by providing individualized and small-group tutoring services to students enrolled in allied healthcare and related non-nursing programs. This position provides proactive and intervention-based academic support to strengthen student understanding of course content, improve academic performance, and promote persistence toward educational goals.
The Professional Tutor serves as an educational resource by reinforcing classroom instruction, assisting students with effective study strategies, and helping students build confidence and academic independence. This position collaborates with faculty and staff to support student success initiatives and contributes to a welcoming and productive learning environment within the West Campus Academic Success Center.
*This is a grant-funded position. Continued employment is contingent upon grant funding.
Qualifications
EDUCATION
Required: Associate Degree in allied healthcare or related field.
Preferred: Bachelor's Degree in allied healthcare or related field.
EXPERIENCE
Required:One (1) year clinical practice experience or teaching in the subject area.
Preferred: Experience tutoring or teaching in a community college or higher education environment. Experience developing instructional or tutoring materials. Experience utilizing educational technology and virtual learning platforms. Experience supporting at-risk student populations or students experiencing academic barriers.
CERTIFICATION/LICENSURE
Required: Current, active, and unencumbered licensure in an approved healthcare discipline.
Job Duties & Responsibilities
  • Provide one-on-one and small-group tutoring to students in allied healthcare and related non-nursing disciplines to support academic success and course completion.
  • Reinforce classroom instruction by assisting students with subject matter comprehension, critical thinking, and effective learning strategies.
  • Teach effective academic success strategies, including study skills, time management, note-taking, organization, and test-taking techniques.
  • Provide supplemental instruction to strengthen student performance and confidence in coursework.
  • Develop tutoring resources, study materials, and remediation tools to support student learning.
  • Organize and maintain a tutoring environment that promotes productivity, engagement, and academic success.
  • Identify academic and non-academic barriers affecting student success and provide referrals to appropriate campus resources when needed.
  • Maintain accurate documentation of tutoring services in accordance with tutoring policies, grant requirements, and institutional expectations.
  • Track student progress and communicate updates regarding grant participants to the appropriate Advising Associate and/or Supervisor.
  • Collaborate with faculty and staff regarding student needs, academic support strategies, and tutoring completion while maintaining confidentiality.
  • Support operations of the West Campus Academic Success Center and assist with student success initiatives as needed.
  • Participate in required staff meetings, tutor trainings, and college professional development opportunities.
  • Maintain confidentiality of student information in compliance with FERPA, grant requirements, and college policy.
  • Support the mission and goals of the West Campus Academic Success Center and departments served.
  • Perform other work-related duties as assigned.

Physical Demands: While performing the duties of this position, the employee may be required to travel between offices and campus locations and occasionally lift, carry, push, or move materials and office supplies up to twenty-five (25) pounds as needed.
Working Conditions: Must be willing to work a flexible schedule, including occasional evenings, weekends, and special events as needed.
Work Environment: This position operates primarily in an educational and professional office environment and routinely uses standard office equipment, including computers, phones, printers, and copy machines. Work is performed in student-facing areas with frequent interaction, interruptions, and varying levels of supervision. Software commonly used includes Microsoft Office Suite, Colleague, and educational support platforms.
