Position Summary

OrthoVirginia is seeking a motivated Therapy Tech / Personal Trainer to join our Ashburn clinic. This hybrid role supports both the Physical Therapy and Sports Performance departments, providing consistent full-time hours while fostering collaboration between rehabilitation and performance services. The long-term objective of the role is to progressively build a personal training client load while gradually decreasing therapy tech hours. This dual-role structure allows the individual to work closely alongside physical therapists to build rapport with patients and gain clinical experience, while developing a personal training clientele that helps bridge the transition from rehabilitation to sports performance, fitness classes, and return-to-sport programming.

Separate pay rates apply for each role component.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Therapy Tech Responsibilities (Approx. 30 hrs/week)

  • Assist physical and hand therapists with patient treatment activities
  • Guide patients through therapist-assigned exercises under direct supervision
  • Prepare, clean, and maintain equipment and treatment areas
  • Sanitize shared surfaces and patient care spaces
  • Support clinical staff with permitted duties under therapist supervision
  • Perform clerical tasks including answering phones, filing, and stocking supplies
  • Complete laundry and linen restocking
  • Follow clinic policies and safety procedures

Personal Trainer Responsibilities (Approx. 10 hrs/week)

  • Conduct personal training and return-to-sport assessments
  • Develop and implement individualized training programs
  • Instruct clients on proper exercise technique and safety
  • Monitor and document client progress in Epic
  • Communicate with therapists and physicians to align care plans
  • Lead individual and small group training sessions
  • Maintain a clean and safe training environment
  • Support client retention and growth of sports performance services

Qualifications

Required:

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Current Personal Training certification (CSCS, NASM, ACSM, ACE, ISSA, AFAA, NATA, NESTA, NCSF)
  • Current CPR/AED certification
  • Strong communication and customer service skills

Preferred:

  • 1+ year of personal training experience or Bachelor's degree in Exercise Science or related field
  • Experience in a clinical, rehabilitation, or sports performance setting

Physical Requirements

  • Frequent standing, walking, bending, kneeling, lifting, and carrying
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs
  • Continuous use of fine motor skills, hearing, speaking, and visual acuity
  • Work performed in a clinical and fitness environment
