Mastercam Programming information

What is Mastercam programming?

Mastercam programming refers to the process of using Mastercam software to create toolpaths and generate G-code for CNC (Computer Numerical Control) machines. This software enables programmers to design parts, simulate machining operations, and optimize cutting processes for manufacturing. Mastercam programmers convert CAD models into instructions that CNC machines use to fabricate parts with precision and efficiency.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Mastercam programmer?

To excel as a Mastercam Programmer, you need strong skills in CNC machining, CAD/CAM software proficiency, and a solid understanding of manufacturing processes, typically supported by technical training or certification in Mastercam. Familiarity with Mastercam software, G-code programming, and CNC machine operation is crucial for producing accurate toolpaths and efficient machining. Attention to detail, problem-solving ability, and effective communication with machinists and engineers are essential soft skills. These competencies ensure the creation of precise parts, minimize errors, and optimize production efficiency in a manufacturing environment.

What are some common challenges Mastercam programmers face when working with complex parts, and how can they address them?

Mastercam Programmers often encounter challenges when programming complex geometries, such as intricate contours or multi-axis toolpaths. These situations require careful planning to avoid collisions, ensure optimal surface finishes, and maintain efficient cycle times. Collaborating closely with machinists and engineers can help identify potential manufacturing issues early on. Additionally, regularly updating Mastercam skills and staying current with software updates can greatly improve problem-solving and productivity when handling difficult projects.

Do Mastercam programmers make good money?

Mastercam programmers typically earn competitive wages, with salaries varying based on experience, location, and industry. Skilled programmers who are proficient in CAD/CAM software and have experience with complex machining often command higher pay. Certification and specialization can also positively impact earning potential.

Job description

This is an exciting opportunity for a Mastercam Subject Matter Expert to join a rapidly growing Aerospace and Defense precision manufacturer that is investing heavily in advanced machining technology.

We are bringing a brand new MillTurn machining center into the shop and need the person who can own the programming side of it. If you are a true MillTurn programmer who enjoys complex work, improving processes, and being the go to technical expert, this is an opportunity to make a real impact.

Position Overview

This is a high level, programming focused Software Engineer position. You will program complex MillTurn work in Mastercam 2026 and run the first part to prove out your programs before handing them off to production. You will not be responsible for routine machine setup or production machining.

The ideal candidate is someone who brings strong MillTurn expertise, a continuous improvement mindset, and a track record of making manufacturing processes better.

Key Responsibilities

  • Program complex 9-Axis MillTurn and multi axis components using Mastercam
  • Serve as the MillTurn programming Subject Matter Expert
  • Develop, prove out, and optimize programs for complex, tight tolerance parts
  • Run first parts to validate programs before transitioning them to production
  • Troubleshoot programming and machining issues
  • Identify opportunities to reduce cycle times, improve machine efficiency, reduce costs, and increase productivity
  • Help implement new programming strategies, technology, automation, and process improvements
  • Work closely with machinists, engineering, quality, and operations

Required Qualifications

  • Proven MillTurn / 9 axis machining center programming experience
  • Strong Mastercam programming experience
  • Experience with Mastercam 2026 preferred
  • Demonstrated experience improving manufacturing processes, efficiency, productivity, or cycle times
  • Comfortable with technology, process change, and continuous improvement
  • Strong employment history and ability to work effectively with coworkers and leadership
  • U.S. Citizen or Green Card holder due to ITAR requirements
  • Ability to pass a background check and drug test

Preferred Qualifications

  • Aerospace and/or DOD experience
  • Experience with tight tolerance, complex components
  • CMM or inspection background
  • Mastercam 2026 experience
  • Advanced 5 axis machining experience
  • Experience with complex multi axis machining equipment

Compensation & Schedule

Compensation: $50+ per hour DOE

Schedule: Monday through Thursday, approximately 6:30 AM to 4:30 PM

Overtime: Friday overtime available if desired

Why Consider This Opportunity?

  • Become the MillTurn Subject Matter Expert
  • Work with advanced 5 axis and multi axis equipment
  • High level programming role with significant technical ownership
  • Join a rapidly growing Aerospace and Defense manufacturer
  • Opportunity to directly influence processes, technology, and efficiency
  • Strong opportunity for growth as the company continues expanding
