Coordinates and manages distributive and clinical services provided by the Department of Pharmaceutical Services, including supervision of personnel and educational programs offered by the department.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
EDUCATION, CERTIFICATION, AND/OR LICENSURE:

1. Must possess current license as required by state board where services will be provided:
MD: Active Pharmacist License through the Maryland Board of Pharmacy
WV: Active Pharmacist License through the West Virginia Board of Pharmacy
PA: Active Pharmacist License through the Pennsylvania Board of Pharmacy
EXPERIENCE:
1. Candidates must have experience in at least ONE of the following areas:
  • Completion of a health-system pharmacy administration residency program
  • Completion of a non-health-system pharmacy administration residency program AND 1 year of experience as a clinical pharmacist or pharmacy administrator
  • Three (3) years of pharmacy administrative experience
  • Five (5) years of pharmacist practice experience

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
EDUCATION, CERTIFICATION, AND/OR LICENSURE:

1. Master of Business Administration, Master's of Health Administration, Master of Science in Health-System Pharmacy Administration, or Master in Public Health.
2. Pharmacy Specialty Certification through the Board of Pharmacy Specialties (BPS)

2. Develops and, with approval, implements programs, systems, and services to provide drug distribution and clinical services that meet or exceed national standards for patients.
3. Formulates and refines systems used in the provision of pharmaceutical care to patients.
4. Directs the activities of staff, within assigned teams, and monitors performance, clarifies work expectations and promotes cooperation among individuals and groups.
5. Directly supervises staff practicing in areas of primary responsibility.
6. Performs personnel functions such as interviewing, hiring and performance management of direct-report employees.
7. Ensures that policies and procedures related to drug distribution are followed.
8. Assures that staff schedules and daily work schedules of assigned personnel are coordinated and available in a timely manner.
9. Investigates and studies trends and developments in pharmacy practice; develops policies and procedures and operational manuals; introduces new products and procedures to staff within their assigned teams and responsibilities.
10. Assures the development of policies, procedures and other orientation and training materials to support clinical and operational services.
11. Identifies, seeks approval for and with approval implements new products, technology, and procedures to improve clinical and distribution operations.
12. Works with the administrative team to determine product standards and assure compliance with national standards and regulatory requirements.
13. Assists in the preparation of the annual budget for the Department of Pharmacy; monitors budget and other financial indicators during the year. Assists in the development and implementation of plans to control costs and improve departmental operations.
14. Assists in the preparation of the annual labor, non-labor and capital budgets as requested.
15. Develops, and with approval, implements systems to promote safe and effective use of pharmacy resources.
16. Assists the administrative team to develop and maintain performance improvement indicators and programs to improve quality of service and optimize patient safety.
17. Works to develop, implement and effectively respond to performance improvement indicators that routinely assess pharmaceutical services and promote improvement in the quality of services provided.
18. Assures adequate and timely submission of data and reports for performance improvement activities.
19. Establishes systems to encourage effective communication and working relationships between pharmacy employees and other healthcare professionals.
20. Takes a proactive and innovative approach to problem identification and resolution.
21. Maintains professional knowledge and skills by active participation in continuing education activities.
22. Maintains professional society involvement (local, state and national).

Additional Job Description:
This position will oversee Pharmacy Operations and Teams responsible for providing ambulatory infusion and clinic services to the WVUH Mary Babb Randolph Cancer Center (MBRCC) and Rockefeller Neuroscience Institute (RNI) as well as other relevant areas across the WVUH campus. The manager will lead a team of pharmacists and pharmacy technicians working in the WVUH Cancer Center Pharmacy, be responsible for all relevant compliance standards pertaining to the practice of pharmacy and patient care in the above areas, and collaborate with other pharmacy teams/leaders on cross-team and interdisciplinary initiatives.
