Position Summary
Conduct and coordinate attendance of safety and security audits on board customer vessels, as well as training with merchant mariners furthering their awareness and understanding of relevant U.S. laws and regulations to ensure compliance as they work to increase productivity in an effective and safe manner.

Location: Remote - between Corpus Christi and Lake Charles preferred.
Position Type: Part-Time (On-Call)
FLSA Status: Non-Exempt
Pay: Hourly
Compensation: Commensurate with experience
Travel: 25% domestic or foreign
Essential Job Functions
  • Conducting safety and security inspections for our extensive US and Foreign vessel clients. May be required to sail with the vessel on short coastwise voyages at times.
  • Conduct third party and/or court appointed auditor services in support of Environmental Compliance Programs
  • Providing vessel captains with guidance before, during and after US Coast Guard Port State Control vessel exams and inspections.
  • Demonstrating and understanding of vessel safety, security, safety management systems, crew training, firefighting, pollution prevention, navigation, hull construction, machinery, cargo segregation and transfer systems, crew manning and operators and owners.
  • Conducting environmental, safety, and security audits and training with merchant mariners their awareness and understanding as they work to increase productivity in an effective and safe manner.
  • Conduct ISM as well as navigation audits as needed.
  • Demonstrate the skills to support client preparedness activities such as exercises and training.
  • Excels at people and communication skills with team members and customers
  • 10 years' experience with the USCG or as a Master Mariner or Chief Engineer
  • Other duties as assigned

Minimum Job Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in relevant field from an accredited college or university. As an alternative, two (2) years of experience working in assigned technical discipline may be substituted for one (1) years of education (i.e., eight (8) years of relevant work experience is equal to a Bachelor's degree).
  • 6+ years professional experience in the field of project management or maritime consulting.
  • Demonstrated experience working with International Gas Code (IGC).
  • Demonstrated experience working with either regulatory agencies or shipping companies on issues related to US compliance.
  • Successful candidates must be self-directed and manage their own time effectively. Must be willing to work hours as necessary to meet business development and project implementation goals.
  • Position may require travel as necessary. Ability to work after hours and on weekends as necessary.
  • Ability to plan as necessary to meet position objectives effectively and efficiently.
  • Maintain account and company information in an organized manner.

Preferred Job Requirements
  • 5 years of experience as a Master, Chief Officer, Chief Engineer, OR an experienced US Coast Guard Marine Inspector.
  • Vocational Certificate or Engineering Qualification / Equivalent to a minimum of 5 years of industry experience.
  • USCG Port State Control Officer qualifications
  • Drydock or Plan Review experience
  • Maritime Casualty and Pollution Investigation experience
  • Experience with US regulations and International Safety of Life at Sea standards.
  • Experience with ISM audits / ISM Certified Examiner.
  • Experience with Gas Carriers
  • Knowledge of SMS & HSSEQ maritime practices
  • Knowledge of 33 and 46 CFR requirements for commercial vessels as well as SOLAS, MARPOL, and ISPS requirements.
  • 5 plus years of experience in the field of emergency response such as oil spills or releases of hazardous materials, maritime emergency response, civil unrest, man-made disasters, natural disasters, or equivalent experience
  • Experience with oil spills, maritime responses or other complex emergencies involving natural disasters, fires, civil disturbances, and pollution responses, and have worked with government and industrial response teams at the local, state, federal and international levels
  • Knowledgeable in various methodologies of oil spill response
  • ICS 100, 200, 700, and 800
  • Experience of holding a Command or General Staff position on an actual incident or numerous exercises.

Work Schedule
  • Customer base is worldwide and there will be times when urgent correspondence or calls and arrangements must be made or returned outside of normal business hours in the U.S.
  • Some weekends and outside of normal business hours work will be required from time to time to complete vessel attendance activities. At times, vessel attendance activities must be completed within the window of opportunity of the vessel's schedule which may fall outside of normal business hours or require extended hours (more than 8 hours consecutive) to complete.
  • Lastly, upon occasion deployment travel to attend vessels with less than 72 hours' notice is to be expected.
