The Port Captain reports directly to the General Manager and is responsible for providing Vessel and Administrative support for the Marine Operations group. The Port Captain is responsible for the safe operation of the vessel, oversight of vessel staff, supervision of the cargo operations, communication with the main office, and working under the direction of the General Manager. The Port Captain provides safety leadership and ensures compliance with company policy and procedures.
Essential Job Functions Vessel SupportThe physical demands and work environment described here are representative of those that an employee must meet to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, stand, walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; type, talk, and hear, and taste or smell. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds. Specific vision abilities of this position require close, distance, color, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate but may be loud on occasion. Work is usually done in a field setting. Work may require occasional weekend and/or evening work. The position supervises exempt, non‑exempt, and contracted staff. While performing duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, moving mechanical parts, vehicles and equipment, fumes or airborne particles, outside weather conditions, and extreme cold. The employee is occasionally exposed to high, precarious places and extreme heat. The employee must be able to physically travel by air within and out of the State of Alaska.
