Job Summary
The Department of Psychology in the College of Science, at the University of Texas at Arlington, invites applications for one tenure-track position at the Assistant Professor level and one endowed position (Thompson Chair) at the full or associate professor level. We are seeking candidates with expertise in any area of Industrial and Organizational (I/O) Psychology or closely related fields.
Created in 2000, our I/O Psychology M.S. program follows the scientist-practitioner model, preparing students for applied careers by combining rigorous training in research, quantitative methods, and real-world application. Structured as a two-year cohort, the program emphasizes hands-on learning, including coursework, a required internship, and either a thesis or capstone project. Students gain practical experience through applied projects, data analysis, and consulting-style work, equipping them with skills directly relevant to industry needs. While primarily designed for those entering the workforce, the program also provides a strong foundation for further doctoral study. Overall, graduates leave well-prepared to compete for professional roles by integrating scientific knowledge with practical, evidence-based skills. We continue to recruit high-quality students and produce professional graduates who have gone on to highly successful careers applying I/O psychology in many different settings.
Our department also offers a doctoral program (Ph.D., Experimental Psychology) that has trained research scientists across a range of psychology sub-fields for many years, including psychological sciences (e.g., social, cognitive, and I/O psychology) and neuro/health psychology. Building on this established infrastructure, the department is launching a dedicated I/O Psychology Ph.D. program designed to provide focused doctoral training at the intersection of rigorous scientific inquiry and organizational application. The new program will prepare students for academic and applied research careers through mentored scholarship, advanced graduate seminars, and close faculty collaboration.
In accordance with USCIS regulations, successful applicants must be legally able to accept work in the United States. We are unable to sponsor or take over sponsorship of an employment Visa at this time.

CBC Requirement
It is the policy of The University of Texas at Arlington to conduct a criminal background check on any applicant who is under final consideration for employment with the University.
This position may have access to critical infrastructure as defined by Section 113.001(2) of the Texas Business and Commerce Code. If so, to be hired for and continue to be employed in this position you must maintain the security or integrity of the infrastructure as set forth in Texas Executive Order GA-48. By assuming this position, and if you have access to critical infrastructure, you authorize the University to conduct routine background checks.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
These searches reflect the department's sustained investment in building a research-active I/O faculty capable of supporting both a well-established master's program and a newly launched doctoral program. We welcome applications from outstanding scholars at the assistant professor level as well as candidates at the associate or full professor level.
The assistant professor hire is a traditional tenure-track position intended to strengthen the I/O area's research productivity and doctoral training capacity over the long term. We are open to exceptional candidates from any substantive area of I/O psychology. The successful candidate will be expected to maintain an active program of scholarship, secure external funding, contribute to doctoral and master's-level graduate training, and teach graduate and undergraduate courses in their areas of expertise. Teaching responsibilities will follow the department's standard expectations for research-active tenure-track faculty , with competitive startup support to facilitate a productive transition into the position. Additionally, assistant professors receive teaching releases and light service workload in their first two years to focus on developing a productive research lab. There are no formal administrative expectations attached to this role; the priority is identifying a scholar with clear research trajectory and genuine commitment to doctoral mentorship.
Qualified associate or full professors are sought to fill the endowed A. Dale Thompson Professor of Leadership position. Candidates would be expected to have a demonstrated record of I/O scholarship and a professional interest in academic program leadership. A faculty member at this level would serve as the founding Director of the department's new I/O doctoral program, with formal title and decision authority. Responsibilities include leading doctoral curriculum development, overseeing recruitment and admissions, supporting doctoral student professional development, and representing the program to university administration and external stakeholders. To support the demands of program-building, the position carries a substantially reduced teaching and service workload in the first three years, consistent with other senior research-active faculty in the department. Candidates with experience in doctoral program administration, doctoral student mentorship, and external funding are especially encouraged to apply.
Salary and startup packages will be competitive and commensurate with qualifications and experience.
Required Qualifications
Candidates for the assistant professor position will have: (1) a Ph.D. in I/O psychology or a closely related field, (2) a developing program of peer-reviewed scholarship in I/O psychology or a closely related area, (3) evidence of potential to secure external funding, and (4) evidence of effective teaching at the graduate or undergraduate level.
Candidates for the endowed position will have: (1) a Ph.D. in I/O psychology or a closely related field, (2) a sustained record of I/O scholarship commensurate with appointment at the associate or full professor level, (3) history of securing external funding, (4) evidence of effective teaching at the graduate or undergraduate level, (5) demonstrated experience mentoring doctoral students, and (6) experience in graduate program administration or academic leadership. The successful candidate will assume the role of Director of the I/O Ph.D. Program.
