Job Summary:
The Department of Psychology invites applications for an Adjunct Instructor in Psychology. Candidates must hold a master's degree or higher in psychology or in a closely related field from an accredited institution. Successful candidates may teach undergraduate or graduate psychology courses including: PSY 1000 Intro to Psychology, PSY 1101 Cognition and Behavior, PSY 2200 Research Methods. Successful candidates will plan and supervise semester activities that meet course objectives, maintain records on and evaluate student performance, and assign grades, as well as attend regular faculty meetings.
Compensation:
$1,050 per credit - Masters candidates
$1,150 per credit - Doctorate candidates
Location: This position will be based out of our downtown Honolulu campuses (Waterfront Plaza or Aloha Tower Marketplace)
Qualifications:
Minimum Qualifications:

• Master's degree or higher in psychology or in a closely related area from an accredited institution.
• Able to teach classes, on Oahu, scheduled during days, evenings, and weekends.

Desired Qualifications:

• Doctoral degree in Psychology or related field.
• Experience in clinical practice / applied psychology.
• Participation in original research in scientific psychology.
• Experience teaching university students in a diverse environment.

Other Qualifications:

• Candidates must be legally authorized to work in the United States. Visa sponsorship and relocation allowance are not available for this position.
• Report to work obligations to support the department and may require work during HPU's winter break, if necessary.
• Must meet training and background check qualifications and comply with the Protection of Minors policy.
• Able to teach classes scheduled during days, evenings, and weekends.
• Able to teach classes at multiple locations on Oahu.
• Ability to work in a fast-paced environment requiring excellent time and stress management skills.

Key Responsibilities/Essential Job Functions:

1. Teach undergraduate and graduate courses in the Psychology Department. (95%)

• Meet deadlines and follow direction of the department chair.
• Develop a syllabus of course activities that meets the requirements of the course description, establishes appropriate student learning outcomes, and provides for appropriate class activities throughout the semester.
• Plan and deliver individual classes that conform to the syllabus and other requirements of the University.
• Maintain records on student participation and performance, evaluate student performance on the basis of established student learning outcomes, and assign grades.
• Submit required documents (including student grades) in a timely manner.

2. Performs other related duties as assigned (5%)

• Actively participates as an effective member of team by completing assigned duties, accepting additional assignments or reassignments.
• Assists with seasonal peaks.
