Description
Director of Global Initiatives in Oral and Craniofacial Health (GIOCH) - Internal Search
The University of Michigan School of Dentistry (UMSD) invites nominations and applications for the Director of Global Initiatives in Oral and Craniofacial Health (GIOCH).
This is an outstanding opportunity for full time faculty members seeking to demonstrate and expand their leadership skills and experience. The position reports to the Associate Dean for Academic Affairs.
The Director oversees the coordination and administration of all aspects of the GIOCH program including, but not limited to, the following functions:
  • Develop and implement a strategic plan that aligns organizational goals with longer-term (5-year) objectives
  • Identify and develop international agreements that are mutually beneficial and of high priority
  • Coordinate visits of foreign faculty, scholars and students to UMSD
  • Explore globalization partnerships with other schools and colleges on campus and represent the School of Dentistry (UMSD) in university-wide activities in global affairs
  • Develop and direct unique curricular and extracurricular opportunities for dental and dental hygiene students to participate in global initiatives programs that enrich their understanding in global health, cultural intelligence, creation of sustainable and responsible community-based preventive programs, and knowledge of different health education models and health care systems
  • Encourage greater integration and coordination of students' global experiences with the Pathways program and support interprofessional education and care
  • Serve as an informational resource for faculty and students in the SoD who are pursuing international experiences and/or collaborations
  • Grow programs in a sustainable manner
  • Manage the program and conduct risk assessment
  • Develop an annual budget and operating plan to support the program

Qualifications
Candidates must have a full-time (80% or more) appointment as a clinical or tenure track faculty member within the University of Michigan School of Dentistry. Candidates must be in good standing. Appointment to the position involves an institutional reference check regarding any misconduct.
The preferred candidate should have demonstrated leadership strengths, excellent communication skills, cultural competence, the ability to set priorities and manage diverse teams, a collaborative style, creativity and innovation, and effectiveness in teaching. Other desirable qualities include experience with international programs, international travel, and designing and implementing community health programs.
