Role: Supply Chain Intern

Location: Sumter, South Carolina,29153

Contract: 011+ Months


Job Summary:

This position represents a strong developmental opportunity for a motivated and detail-oriented student to gain hands-on experience within BD’s Supply Chain organization.

Reporting to the Procurement / Supply Chain leadership team, the Procurement Intern will support daily purchasing operations, supplier coordination, and data analysis activities. The role will contribute to improving procurement visibility, operational efficiency, and data accuracy through structured reporting, follow-ups, and process improvement initiatives.

The intern will gain exposure to procurement systems, supplier management, and cross-functional collaboration while supporting key business priorities in delivery, cost, and service performance.


Job Responsibilities:

•Support purchase order (PO) management activities, including tracking open orders, confirmations, and delivery updates

•Follow up with suppliers on past-due orders and critical shortages to ensure continuity of supply

•Maintain and update procurement trackers (open PO report, shortage list, supplier follow-up log)

•Assist in preparing weekly and monthly procurement reports, including:

•On-Time Delivery (OTD) performance

•Lead time tracking

•Past due and risk analysis

•Perform data validation and cleansing activities for supplier and material master data (lead times, pricing, MOQs)

•Support inventory and material flow analysis by reviewing stock levels, shortages, and excess inventory trends

•Assist in cross-functional coordination with Planning, Warehouse, Quality, and Finance teams to resolve supply and invoice issues

•Contribute to process improvement initiatives, including:

•Converting manual processes into digital tools (Excel, SharePoint)

•Standardizing reporting templates and trackers

•Documenting basic procurement procedures (SOPs)

•Support supplier performance tracking and reporting for internal reviews

•Provide general administrative and analytical support to the Procurement team as needed


Minimum Education:

This position has the following minimum educational requirements:

•Currently pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain, Business, Engineering, or related field


Minimum Experience:

•No prior experience required; internship or project experience in supply chain or data analysis is a plus


Basic Knowledge and Skills:

Professional Skills:

•Basic understanding of supply chain and procurement concepts

•Strong analytical and problem-solving skills

•Proficiency in Microsoft Excel (data analysis, formulas preferred)

•Good written and verbal communication skills

•Attention to detail and data accuracy
