General Statement of DutiesPerforms skilled work in the operation and control of a complex sewage treatment plant.
QualificationsEducation and Experience:High School diploma and five (5) years of experience working as a wastewater treatment operator.
Certification Requirements:Must possess a CT Class II Wastewater Treatment Operator Certification and obtain a Class III Wastewater Treatment Operator Certification within one (1) year of employment.
Out of state licenses will be considered with proof of reciprocity from CTDEEP's Bureau of Water Protection and Land.
Must obtain Class II Wastewater Collection Certification within eighteen (18) months of hire.
Commercial Driver's Licenses (CDL) with tanker endorsement preferred.
Qualifications:Demonstrated knowledge of wastewater treatment theory, processes, equipment, and plant operations.
Demonstrated knowledge of the occupational hazards and safety practices related to wastewater treatment facilities.
Demonstrated knowledge of local regulations related to stormwater permits.
Demonstrated proficiency in the operation of a personal computer and related software applications.
Proven ability to use independent judgment and to supervise the work of staff.
Demonstrated ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.
Proven ability to maintain accurate records and to produce clear, comprehensive oral and written reports.
Demonstrated ability to lift, push and support weights of up to 100 lbs.
Proven ability to access equipment and tankage through use of ladders.
Proven ability to operate equipment standing or sitting for extended periods of time.
Proven ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions.

Reports to: Process Control Manager
Duties and Responsibilities: Assists the Process Control Manager in the operation of plant processes, making adjustments and control changes.
Conducts routine operational testing ensuring proper process function.
Assumes full operational control of the plant in the absence of the Process Control Manager.
Supervises staff as assigned.
Assists mechanics and electricians with testing, maintenance, and repair of equipment, treatment systems, and facilities.
Collects required wastewater samples for laboratory analysis.
Maintains accurate operational records and prepares required reports.
Answers phones, operates communication equipment and deals with the public as needed.
Performs related work as assigned.
Supports Town policies and philosophies.

The Sewer Plant Operator II is scheduled to work a rotating schedule, for a total of 35 regular working hours per week. The day schedule is 7:00am-2:30pm and night schedule is 2:30pm-10:00pm. The schedule consists of a 6-week rotation with either Saturday/Sunday off, Monday/Tuesday off or Thursday/Friday off. There may be opportunity for overtime on evenings and weekends, but there is no guaranteed overtime amount. Given the nature of sewer operations, emergency call-ins will occur, and employees are required to respond. Are you available to work this schedule?
