Job Purpose:
The Sanitation Manager will ensure cleanliness and sanitation of the facility and grounds in accordance with food safety and quality assurance policies, as well as applicable Federal, State, Local regulations to maintain equipment and facility in compliance with GMP and food safety expectations, industry and organizational standards.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Define and implement master cleaning schedule following best practices for food safety operations.
  • Assign daily schedule, work orders, projects to sanitation staff assessing performance to ensure results meet established sanitary, quality, and operational standards.
  • Identify and order required tools for team to meet performance expectations, issue and maintain records for accountability.
  • Maintain audit readiness of site ensuring audit guidelines are followed on daily basis.
  • Manage employee uniform program in compliance with BRC.
  • Manage pesticide programs and conduct routine audits of traps.
  • Conduct routine hygiene inspections and identify areas for improvement.
  • Participate in audits providing documentation to support compliance with policies and regulations.
  • Manage recycling and process waste programs, implementing process improvement to reduce waste and increase opportunities for recycling.
  • Maintain and present metrics on process waste and work with departments to drive area waste reduction.
  • Manage the removal of all non-hazardous waste materials for site.
  • Conducts training to inform and teach others the importance of food safety, supporting food safety audits.
  • Ensures training programs are updated and in compliance with current regulatory and customer requirements.
  • Monitor and verify cleaning processes through random checks to ensure full compliance with SSOP guidelines,
  • Ensure prompt correction actions are completed for any non-conformance of food safety and implement preventative measures to avoid recurrence.
  • Oversees department staff provide leadership, coaching, and assessment against defined goals and expectations.
  • Ensure staff if properly trained with clear expectations of performance.
  • Provide ongoing communication regarding goals, expectations and engage staff in problem solving and continuous improvement of processes.
  • Conduct root cause investigations and implement corrective actions and preventative measures to prevent recurrence.
  • Operate within the Blommer core values of respect and care for others.
  • Manage third-party sanitation and pest control contractors to ensure services meet company food safety, quality, and regulatory standards.
  • Review scope of work with contractors and verify completion of contracted services according to agreed schedules and specifications.
  • Ensure all contractors comply with site safety rules, GMPs, SSOPs, and BRC requirements while on-site.
  • Maintain documentation of contractor activities, including service reports, corrective actions, and compliance records for audit readiness.
  • Conduct periodic performance evaluations of contractors and address any gaps through corrective action plans.
  • Coordinate contractor access, training, and onboarding to ensure alignment with site policies and expectations.

Education:
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience in related field; food science preferred
  • Sanitarian certification preferred

Skills and Work Experience Requirements:
  • Five (5) years of experience in sanitation, quality or related experience in food manufacturing or laboratory environment
  • Minimum 5 years' leadership experience required
  • HACCP and Global Food Safety Initiative (GFSI) audit experience preferred
  • Demonstrated team leadership experience
  • Managerial and organizational skills are essential
  • Must be able to taste and consume chocolate and related products
  • Proficient computer skills with Microsoft Office suite and enterprise resource management systems (ERP)
  • Expected to identify, communicate/escalate and problem-solve as issues arise
