Job description

Job Summary:
Oneida Health is seeking a full-time Maintenance Helper to join our team. The Maintenance Helper performs unskilled manual work related to the operation and maintenance of buildings and equipment. This role involves various tasks such as painting, minor repair work, snow removal, equipment maintenance, and general upkeep duties. The Maintenance Helper receives general directions for each assignment and works under supervision while tasks are in progress.
Key Responsibilities:
  • Prepare surfaces for painting by scraping, sanding, washing, and applying paint and varnish remover.
  • Participate in painting rooms and hallways.
  • Manage readings on boiler gauges and assist in boiler cleaning.
  • Perform minor carpentry work such as repairs to desks, tables, and office furniture.
  • Assist in snow removal from sidewalks and grounds during winter months.
  • Replace defective fuses and light bulbs.
  • Repair windows and replace glass.
  • Assist in cleaning and maintaining tools, machinery, and other mechanical equipment.
  • Perform minor masonry work.
  • Make daily rounds to inspect electrical and mechanical equipment for safe and efficient operation.
  • Take air temperature and humidity readings to monitor static electricity.
  • Install locks.
  • Maintain routine written records.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Education:
  • High School diploma or equivalent.

Experience:
  • Six months or more of related experience preferred.

Required Skills and Abilities:
  • Ability to read and interpret instructions, procedures, manuals, and other documents.
  • Knowledge of cleaning methods and equipment.
  • Basic understanding of equipment upkeep and care.
  • Familiarity with cleaning compounds and chemicals and their safe use.
  • Capability to perform maintenance tasks such as painting, changing light bulbs, and minor plumbing repairs.

Physical Requirements:
  • Sufficient physical strength and agility to carry out essential duties.
  • Ability to erect and stand on ladders and platforms at heights up to 20 feet.
  • Capability to work with various materials, chemicals, and solutions.
  • Ability to work in conditions that may create dirt, dust, or weather exposure.
  • Capacity to perform essential maintenance tasks, including lifting and moving up to 50 lbs unassisted.
