Job description

Additional Information: This hotel is owned and operated by an independent franchisee, StaySharpe Hotels. The franchisee is a separate company and a separate employer from Marriott International, Inc.  The franchisee solely controls all aspects of the hotel's employment policies and practices, including hiring, firing, discipline, staffing, compensation, benefits, and all other terms and conditions of employment.  If you accept a position at this hotel, you will be employed by a franchisee and not by Marriott International, Inc.

Position Title: General Manager
 
Location: West Fargo, ND
 
FLSA Status: Full-Time, Exempt
 
Position Details
 
The General Manager oversees all operations of the Element Fargo hotel, including staff leadership, guest experience, financial performance, and compliance with brand standards. This position is responsible for ensuring efficient daily operations while maintaining high standards of service, cleanliness, safety, and profitability. The General Manager works closely with the Asset Manager and leads operational strategy, financial performance, and team development. This role requires a hands-on leadership approach, including a consistent on-property presence to support staff, engage with guests, and ensure accountability across all areas of the hotel.
 
Duties and Responsibilities
Leads and supervises hotel staff across all departments including front desk, housekeeping, and maintenance.
Provides coaching, training, and performance management to ensure high levels of employee engagement and accountability.
Establishes and maintains a positive work environment that promotes teamwork, communication, and professional development.
Oversees daily hotel operations to ensure efficiency, service quality, and adherence to established procedures.
Ensures compliance with all brand standards, policies, and applicable regulations.
Maintains a visible presence on property to support operations and enhance the guest experience.
Addresses guest concerns and feedback in a timely and professional manner to ensure satisfaction.
Oversees property maintenance and ensures the hotel is clean, safe, and well-maintained at all times.
Develops and manages the hotel's annual budget, including labor, operating costs, and revenue targets.
Monitors financial performance including revenue, expenses, and profitability; implements strategies to improve results.
Reviews and analyzes key performance indicators including Intent to Recommend (ITR), Brand Standard Audits (BSA), EBITDA/P&L performance, and overall hotel profitability.
Works with ownership and leadership to develop strategies that increase occupancy, revenue, and market share.
Supports sales and marketing efforts, including building relationships with local businesses and community partners.
Oversees scheduling, payroll, and staffing levels to meet operational needs while controlling labor costs.
Prepares and provides regular reports on operational and financial performance to the Asset Manager.
Ensures proper inventory management, purchasing, and cost control practices are followed.
 
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Knowledge of hotel operations, including front desk, housekeeping, maintenance, and guest services.
Knowledge of hospitality industry standards and brand compliance expectations, preferably within the Marriott International system.
Strong leadership ability with demonstrated success in supervising and developing teams.
Ability to analyze financial reports and manage budgets to meet performance goals.
Ability to effectively resolve problems, manage conflict, and make sound operational decisions.
Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.
Ability to maintain a high level of customer service and professionalism in all interactions.
Ability to adapt to changing business conditions and operational needs.
 
Compensation
 
Starting salary: $80,000 annually
Eligible for performance-based bonus tied to key metrics, including:
Intent to Recommend (ITR)
Brand Standard Audit (BSA) scores
EBITDA/P&L performance
Overall hotel profitability
 
Education and Experience
Bachelor's degree in Hospitality Management, Business Administration, or a related field preferred.
Minimum of three (3) to five (5) years of hotel management experience required.
Experience with extended stay or Marriott-branded properties preferred.
 
Starting salary: $80,000 annually. Eligible for performance-based bonus tied to key metrics, including: Intent to Recommend (ITR), Brand Standard Audit (BSA), scores EBITDA/P&L performance, and Overall hotel profitability.
