The NoSQL Database Developer, Mid supports the development, maintenance, and optimization of MarkLogic-based data solutions. This role is responsible for creating data ingestion pipelines, implementing XML/JSON data models, and supporting application teams with structured and unstructured data handling. The developer participates in Agile development activities and collaborates with senior engineers to ensure the reliability and performance of mission-focused data environments supporting Marine Corps operations.
Responsibilities
  • Develop MarkLogic ingestion pipelines for relational databases, file shares, web services, and real-time streams.
  • Build and maintain transformation logic to harmonize disparate data sources into canonical XML and JSON data models.
  • Participate in all phases of the Agile software development lifecycle, including sprint planning, backlog refinement, and retrospectives.
  • Support requirements definition, system architecture discussions, and data architecture design activities.
  • Assist with installing, configuring, and maintaining MarkLogic Server environments under the direction of senior staff.
  • Conduct routine MarkLogic maintenance activities, including log monitoring, backup support, and preparation for patches or upgrades.
  • Perform initial troubleshooting of database or ingestion pipeline issues and support coordinated escalation.
  • Contribute to technical documentation, standard operating procedures, and data architecture artifacts.
  • Assist with disaster recovery planning and testing.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications
  • BA/BS or MA/MS degree, or equivalent years of experience in lieu of a degree.
  • 5+ years of experience in a field directly related to the position
  • 3+ years of experience with JavaScript, Java, C+, .NET, or similar programming languages.
  • 3+ years of experience with XML or JSON data modeling.
    • Experience with Git, Git Flow, Bitbucket, or similar source control tools.
    • Experience developing data ingestion or transformation code.
    • Experience working within Agile development teams.
  • Background check with the ability to obtain and maintain required Public Trust security clearance.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience with MarkLogic Server, including ingestion, transforms, indexes, and REST integration.
  • Experience creating canonical data models or harmonization layers.
  • Experience building real-time or near-real-time ingestion pipelines.
  • Experience supporting DoD or Marine Corps data environments.
  • Familiarity with XQuery, Optic API, or MarkLogic Data Hub Framework.
  • Relevant certifications such as MarkLogic Developer, Security+, and AWS certifications

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
  • Strong programming skills relevant to backend data processing.
  • Understanding of XML and JSON structures, schema design, and document modeling.
  • Working knowledge of MarkLogic Server components including ingestion pipelines, forests, and indexing.
  • Familiarity with RESTful APIs, ETL and ELT patterns, and data services.
  • Ability to troubleshoot ingestion errors, indexing problems, and query performance issues.
  • Strong analytical and communication skills.
  • Ability to collaborate in cross-functional Agile environments.
