A DAY IN THE LIFE OF A TRAFFIC CONTROL LABORER
As a Traffic Control Laborer, your primary responsibility will be ensuring the safety of contractors and motorists in work zones. You'll load and unload traffic control equipment, including drums, signs, barricades, pavement marking materials, and lights. You will set up and remove lane closures, road closures, and other traffic control setups, as well as install and remove pavement markings and roadside safety devices like crash cushions.
Using maps and plan sheets, you'll ensure proper equipment delivery and placement at job sites. You will also perform maintenance on traffic control equipment and assist with shop work, including organization, assembly, repair, and minor maintenance. The role requires flexibility, as tasks and shifts may vary, and you'll work in varying environmental conditions.
JOB REQUIREMENTS
To succeed in this role, you must have a high school diploma or equivalent and maintain a valid driver's license with an excellent driving record. The role requires lifting at least 50 pounds repetitively and performing physical tasks like reaching overhead, bending, kneeling, and twisting. Comfort with outdoor work in extreme weather and walking long distances is essential.
