Unit 776 - Hammond - Striping Unit
The LA DOTD is a diverse organization with approximately 4,000 employees state-wide. Our agency employs individuals in professional, technical, and administrative support positions to provide a strong and reliable transportation system. The primary function of this position is to serve as a Highway Foreman 2 for the District Striping Unit 776, this position reports directly to the District Traffic Operations Manager. The general duties of this position are to schedule and supervise the daily activities of the mobile equipment operators on the striping crew, which specializes in marking on all State and Federal highways, in accordance with the Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices. The incumbent must be self-motivated and be able to perform duties many times with or without minimal supervision and be able to interpret unforeseen conditions as they may arise. Required to be on call 24 hours a day and must perform duties in all types of weather. The incumbent will participate in appropriate DOTD structured training programs as appropriate and attend all continuing education classes and conferences deemed necessary to facilitate the performance of required tasks. While in official capacity, DOTD employees must comply with applicable Louisiana and Civil Service laws, rules, and regulations, as well as DOTD policies, procedures, manuals, and directives.
The incumbent is required to possess the following specialized knowledge, skills, abilities, as well as to maintain the following licensing and operate the following equipment:
• A valid Louisiana Class A commercial driver's license and submit to random drug testing as required before appointment
• Working knowledge of a computer, office phone and work tablet
• Perform duties in extreme weather conditions such as rain, cold, or heat
• May be required to lift items up to 50 pounds
• Knowledge in the use of payroll, material, and daily work reporting software, including but not limited to PTMW, Agile Assets, Microsoft Office, etc., and have a professional attitude when dealing with the department employees and the public
Minimum Qualifications
Four years of experience in the construction, maintenance, or repair of roads, bridges, levees, drainage facilities, wharfs, buildings, or grounds; OR
Four years of experience in the operation or maintenance of electronically controlled locks or industrial or heavy mobile equipment.

Job Duties and Other Information
Job Duties:
  • Schedules, assigns, and supervises the daily activities of the striping crew engaged in applying centerline, edge lines and "No Passing" stripes, reflectorized pavement markers, thermoplastic tape for layout railroad crossings, pedestrian crosswalks, stop bars, turning lanes, arrows and "Only" legends on state highways
  • Incumbent insures that employees acquire necessary training to operate specialized equipment. Evaluate employee's daily job performance and use this documentation to conduct performance evaluations at the fiscal year end. Recommend personnel actions to District Traffic Operations Specialist
  • Collects and maintains reflectivity/condition data for Districts striping database using reflectivity meter and personal computer or laptop. Schedule supplies, material, equipment, and the appropriate man-power to be delivered on site. Accounts for man-power, equipment, and material on daily work reports
  • Ensures that all striping work conforms to the Manual of Uniform Traffic Control Devices (MUTCD) and the Department's specifications
  • Assign crew-members as needed to assist the sign shop with road closures, interstate lane closures, sign installations, replacement, and maintenance of highway signs.
