What is a marketing public relations manager?

Marketing Public Relations Managers are professionals responsible for managing a company's public image and promoting its products or services through strategic communication. They develop and implement marketing campaigns, handle media relations, and coordinate public events to enhance brand awareness. These managers work closely with both marketing and PR teams to ensure consistent messaging, foster positive relationships with stakeholders, and respond to public inquiries or crises. Their goal is to maintain a favorable reputation for their organization while driving business growth.

How does a marketing public relations manager typically balance proactive media outreach with crisis communication responsibilities?

A Marketing Public Relations Manager often juggles both proactive media outreachβ€”such as pitching positive stories and organizing eventsβ€”and reactive crisis communication when issues arise. Balancing these tasks requires strong organizational skills, the ability to quickly shift priorities, and clear communication with leadership and other departments. Managers typically develop strategic plans for ongoing outreach while maintaining up-to-date crisis protocols, ensuring they are prepared to respond rapidly and effectively when necessary. This dual focus is essential for maintaining a strong brand reputation and building positive relationships with media outlets and stakeholders.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a marketing public relations manager, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Marketing Public Relations Manager, you need expertise in strategic communications, media relations, and campaign management, typically backed by a bachelor's degree in marketing, communications, or a related field. Familiarity with PR software (such as Cision or Meltwater), social media analytics tools, and content management systems is commonly required. Exceptional written and verbal communication, creativity, and relationship-building skills help professionals excel in managing brand reputation and engaging diverse audiences. These skills are vital for crafting compelling messages, maximizing positive publicity, and driving organizational success in a competitive market.

Job description

Johnson & Wilson is a growing family of companies specializing in real estate, development, title services, construction, affordable housing, education, and emerging technology. We are seeking a creative, energetic, and results-driven Marketing & Public Relations Manager to help elevate our brands, increase visibility, generate leads, and secure meaningful media exposure. This IS NOT a remote position.

This is a hands‑on role for someone who enjoys both strategy and execution. We are not seeking someone who simply manages outside vendors. We need a marketing professional who can personally create campaigns, manage advertising, produce content, build relationships with the media, and help drive measurable business growth.

The Marketing & Public Relations Manager will oversee marketing, communications, branding, digital advertising, public relations, and lead generation efforts across multiple affiliated companies and initiatives.

The ideal candidate is highly organized, creative, tech‑savvy, and understands how to generate awareness, engagement, and leads through a combination of digital marketing, public relations, and content creation.
