WHY HUNA TOTEM

For over 10,000 years, the Xunaa Káawu have been stewards of this land. Huna Totem Corporation carries that legacy forward by building successful businesses that create prosperity for our shareholders, preserve our cultural heritage, and shape a future rooted in our values. Everything we do is guided by a single idea: for the benefit of our people, and for the benefit of all people.

We are culture-driven, community-centric, and business-focused. For us, a career here is more than a job. It is a chance to contribute to and uplift the Xunaa Káawu culture and community, and to do meaningful work in one of the most beautiful places on earth.

TAKING CARE OF OUR PEOPLE

100% employee premium paid by HTC; 50% dependent coverage

Dental & Vision

Multiple plan options to fit your family

Life & Disability

Employer-paid life, AD&D, and LTD income protection

Health Reimbursement

Salary

$100,000 - $150,000 commensurate with experience

ABOUT THE ROLE

This is not a job where you sit behind a brand guide and wait for requests. As Director, Consumer Marketing and Corporate Communications at Huna Totem, you will be the connective tissue across our direct-to-consumer businesses, our government contracting arm, and our internal and shareholder communications. You will move between external-facing brand work and internal storytelling, often in the same week, and you will build the systems that keep all of it consistent.

You bring genuine range. You are as comfortable pitching media on Icy Strait Point as you are writing a shareholder update or briefing HunaTek leadership on a communications plan. You build trust fast, across very different teams, and you bring order to work that could easily feel scattered in less capable hands.

WHAT YOU'LL DO

Consumer Brand Marketing & Public Relations (HTA, ISA & Portage Glacier Cruises)

  • Serve as the Marketing, Communications, and Public Relations lead for Hoonah Travel Adventures, Icy Strait Adventures, Portage Glacier Cruises, and any additional direct-to-consumer businesses
  • Develop marketing and communication plans, materials, and messaging tailored to each business's audience and goals
  • Manage media relations and press opportunities for each consumer business
  • Partner with leadership across these business lines to ensure consistent brand voice and effective promotion
  • Drive leads and bookings through targeted marketing campaigns and initiatives

HunaTek Marketing & Communications

  • Oversee HunaTek's Marketing and Communications efforts, working closely with leadership to identify opportunities that communicate the company's value and capabilities
  • Develop and execute marketing materials, communications, and messaging tailored to the government contracting space
  • Manage public relations and media opportunities relevant to government contracting
  • Partner closely with HunaTek leadership to translate business priorities into effective communications and marketing initiatives

Internal & Shareholder Communications

  • Develop internal and shareholder communication plans that keep employees and shareholders informed, engaged, and connected to company news and culture
  • Lead shareholder communications, partnering with the Shareholder Relations team on themes and content
  • Own the company's annual report and monthly newsletter, from content planning through final production
  • Plan and execute company Town Halls and events, including messaging, materials, and logistics

WHO YOU ARE

You are the kind of communicator who can write a press release in the morning and a shareholder letter in the afternoon, without either one sounding like it came from the wrong playbook.

  • A strong writer and editor, able to adapt tone across employees, shareholders, customers, government stakeholders, and media
  • Collaborative and relationship-driven, with a track record of building trust across diverse teams and business units
  • A self-starter, comfortable with ambiguity and energized by a fluid, fast-moving environment
  • Process-minded and detail-oriented, able to run multiple projects across different business lines at once
  • Genuinely curious about tourism, hospitality, or destination marketing

QUALIFICATIONS

Education & Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in Communications, Journalism, Marketing, or a related field preferred
  • 10+ years of experience in marketing, communications, or a related field, ideally spanning both internal and external work
  • Experience managing media relations or public relations
  • Experience in or willingness to learn the government contracting communications landscape
  • Alaska Native Corporation, tribal, or Indigenous-owned business experience is a plus

WORK ENVIRONMENT

This is a fully remote position with travel required, including media fam trips and other business events. Availability for nights and weekends is required as business needs dictate, including Town Halls, events, media engagements, and time-sensitive deadlines.

NATIVE PREFERENCE

Huna Totem Corporation is a Native-owned enterprise and extends hiring preference under P.L. 93-638. We prioritize qualified Huna Totem Corporation shareholders, their spouses and descendants, and other Alaska Native and American Indian applicants. Applicants must have legal authorization to work in the United States.
